135 Bishan

The client love to cook. “We need a large kitchen space and the design cannot be too clean looking as we love to cook!”

We exploited the large structural span space of the entrance and the balcony area to create a wet and dry kitchen, which is rare for a HDB apartment. By reinterpreting the essence of “industrial theme”, requested by the client, we decided to focus more on the contrasting materials and texture in the widely used style. Taking cues from the terracotta materials around Bishan estate, we combined terracotta tiles with a highly textured OSB material to create the interior spaces. A different floor tile grid from the electrical ceiling was employed to create that intentional tension between the 2 surfaces.
