Here are some appliance garages...
Pantry in 3 separate sections: drawer at bottom, big doors in center, another set of doors at top.
Here is a nice range hood--not something that takes all the focus, but could blend in if the same color as cabinetry.
Small kitchen...cabinet style--flush doors, rail & style with detail around inner edge. Cabinets go all the way to the ceiling. Range hood has cabinets overhead. Look at the other pics in this design as well

Could a corner pantry work?
So dining room, really. Here's a nice table and ladderback chairs with upholstered seats.
Unusual shaped island allows for better flow. Not necessarily that I'm in love with this one, but don't be limited by rectangles!

A little cabinet on the side of the fridge to store dog food? and gardening supplies? etc.
See where they put the microwave? That way you don't lose any counter space. But you do lose some cabinet space. Also note cabinet above fridge, similar to what we did in Silverplume.

Small kitchen with peninsula
Southwestern kitchen: Med wood, some interest in backsplash, but somewhat subtle.
Backsplash-decorative tile on bottom row, but not too loud. Then plain white square above it, set on diagonal. The decorative tile is also used above the stove.
Cabinets go all the way up to the ceiling...but open shelf at top for display-has recessed light in top.

Turns out windowless kitchens aren't so rare after all. This layout, with the sink against the wall and a peninsula is similar to the layout I want to achieve.
