One Plant, Five Space Styles: Sansevieria trifasciata
Looking for plants that will work in your space? The snake plant might be for you
One of the plants in our container plants series, Sansevieria trifasciata cultivar, more commonly known as ‘snake plant’ or ‘Mother-in-law’s Tongue,’ is a great starter plant. With the primary plant originating from tropical Africa, Madagascar and Asia, this genus now boasts about 70 varieties.
The snakeskin plant, another one of its common names, makes for an ideal ornamental plant, thanks to its thick, strap-like leaves and architectural shape. As an added bonus, it is proven to be effective in removing indoor pollutants such as benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene and toluene.

2. Tropical punch
As the snake plant can actually grow up to a metre in height, it can take the place of a palm tree (which can be difficult to keep in a container indoors).
Note: Another great palm tree replacement indoors is raphis excelsa. Here are ideas on how to use the lady palm.

3. Contemporary Zen
Its slim, and straightforward appearance works great with spaces that explore Zen sensibilities. Being a generally fuss-free plant, its survival is one less thing you have to worry about.
