A Meadow Among the Trees
This spectacular one-acre site on Scout Road in Montclair offered expansive spaces with a view down to Shepherd Canyon. Our design intent was to maintain the organic natural experience of the surrounding ecosystems; provide a welcoming, easy-access entrance to the home; and define outdoor play and dining spaces for the client’s growing family. Key to the design was preserving the existing native trees including Oaks, Redwoods, and a sculptural twisting Madrone. The site lacked a traditional front-backyard division, so the design helped create intimate protected areas away from the street. We expanded an existing deck and installed a Bluestone patio with a view to the gorgeous canyon below.
