Americana Themed Childrens Bedroom
Americana is the recurrent theme of this bedroom. The feeling is expressed though the use of a huge dioramic mural depicting an 1850’s river town, double deck raft bunks, quilts, simple antique chairs and chests as well as several fine (yet durable) pieces.
In the corner, a structural “tree” supports a rough stairway to the Texas deck and pilothouse of a sternwheeler. The steps were constructed from a fallen from the property. Throughout this space, emphasis was placed on re-using lumber and timber found on the property, utilizing natural fibers, and preventing waste.
The room was designed to inspire its occupants, three young boys, to create memories for a lifetime in a stimulating environment.
This room was awarded first place for “singular space” in the 1995 Texas ASID Design Ovation awards.
