Frazier Associates
The new owners of this late 19th century home in a historic district commissioned Frazier Associates to help transform the house into a new living space that respected the historic character but allowed for modern amenities. Chief among those goals was creating a larger kitchen and more open living and dining areas, as well as designing new rear, side and upper porches that allowed access to the back yard and took advantage of the splendid views of downtown. Character defining features such as wood floors, diamond windows, and original doors, trim and moldings were retained and complemented with a sleek new kitchen, bathrooms and built-in cabinetry. The result is an open, bright interior with spaces that function and flow well together, and new porches that greatly expand the living spaces and integrate the house with the site and views.

Screen-in-porch is off the Family room. The older couple enjoyed coffee here in the morning and relaxed in the evening.
BERTRAMS
A side view of the front porch. Log & stone construction accented by carved teak accoutrements done in Viking Dragon Style, as inspired by the Stavkirke (stave church) at Urnes in Norway. The flooring is 500 year old reclaimed granite salvaged from an old temple in mainland China. The doorbell is an old chow bell found at an old lumber camp in Maine. The chip carving design (in Norwegian called Karveskurd) was found on an old mangleboard in the National Museum in Oslo. The roundel (medallion) is Black Forest Style and depicts a pair of hounds taking down a stag.

This 80’s Parisian apartment was completely rearranged: the living room was moved to the south-facing part of the apartment, to introduce more natural light. A separate and elevated space was designed to create a delicate green area, to relax and contemplate.
The interior was completed with a eclectic mix of furniture from various epochs and some powerful colors, such as navy blue and mustard, to bring character to this picturesque site.

The sscreened porch serves as an additional sitting room, perched high in the trees over the brook. A plank walkway leads to the spa and waterfall beyond. The fireplace warms the space for cool nights. David Sloane photo
