what finish did you use

Hi, what type of finish did you put on the floor?
we have used tongue oil before, but our sander is suggesting polyurethane, with a water or oil base. please advise what you used.

I have hardwood floors sealed with a water based eurothane. Semi gloss as high gloss shows more dirt. Had tounge oil in old house, never looked very shiny

I would definitely consider an off white colour as this will be a safe, and probably more attractive option with the colours your stated on your bed. However the sheen may not go well with the green and white laminate, if the chandelier go well with the decor of the room then I think going for a sheen finish could easily finish off the room! However if not it could really make your room have two contrasting style schemes. Off white would also look good, but if you like a bit a glam, then a sheen finish is a fantastic option! What other stuff do you have in your room? Is it possible to upload a picture as many 'minds' can make light work lol. We cannot really comment on adding things to brighten it up but I am sure there are designers on Houzz that can help. :)

How can I hide an existing column in the kitchen

You could use the column for something useful like hanging utensils or cooking tools if you have the height or a towel rack or if you want to just hide it you could put fairy lights on/around it to give a homely feel.my personal opinion would be if there is a ledge you should get some vintage alcohol bottles and put them there as decoration and it works nice in most households.if no ledge just get a wine rack and screw it to the column

Wood dye is different than stain - I never worked with it but I think it soaks into the grain a lot more than stain which sits more on top. Make sure you try it out first on a scrap piece of oak (or the underside of your table).

No way! Never underestimate the appeal of a new mattress. You spend a third of your life sleeping, so you definitely want to be comfortable. If it's too expensive, maybe look at cutting costs somewhere else?
