What type of granite is this? Thank you!

I have dark tiles in my kitchen and creamy white cabinets. The tiles have somewhat of an orangy hue. I'm trying to minimize that hue and bring out more of the beige and brown tones. Also the kitchen does not get much naturual light, so I do not want to do a dark countertop.

I also have an overwhelming need to see something curvy, flirtatious and round in the space. Consider this when scouting for decor and accesory items (i.e. round rug, curvy fluid light fixtures). Also, would it be a complete abomination to sand down the furniture (so it looks older) or painting it a new color before upholstering to modernize it? I agree with j222b's suggestion in that the furniture and space could benefit from some eclectic coverings but perhaps a neutral fabric against a new color that could bring out the carving of the wood could work too? In my head I see a rusty orange or deep aubergine purple or rich dark green. Just a thought...

I would reupholster the rosewood furniture in natural canvas or a natural linen look . Ask the upholsterer to do the job with NO welting. That will make it look more contemporary. Then stop by West Elm, Pottery Barn, or Crate & Barrel for some brightly colored pillows. I'm thinking coral might work well with your tile, but you be the judge of what color works best with it. For now we'll assume it's coral. So I'd like to see one wall painted coral if you're so inclined. Otherwise, I'd leave the walls white. Next, let's cover some of that tile you don't like. Two choice: 1. A rug you'll take with you. Perhaps a shaggy offwhite one. 2. A rug you'll leave in your rental. This could be a large piece of carpeting, cut and bound like a rug. Measure for size before going to the carpet store. Most carpeting is 12' wide, so figure on making a rug 12 x something so that there is no waste, or you could make a couple of 6 x somethings. If you could change out the rosewood coffee table for another, I think you'd be happier with the furniture. It needs some variety. Even a couple of small tables from IKEA could work for 6 to 8 months.

Well fellow Houzzers I hate to admit it but I've been firmly planted on Houzz for a large part of the day under the watchful eye of Foxtel tunes "Blues & roots". Most of it was okay including some Bob Dylan and Van Morrison as stand outs. My 25 year old son is home and said "How are your going with your project?" I said okay/good/great etc...(secret women's business) but my neck is getting sore. Then he said "you should listen to some music on your headphones" and he suggested tycho. Well after getting in the zone for the last hour...with this techno trance'ish background music (okay'ish music I guess, no singing just some dj spinning airy electronic sounds and stuff)... An hour or so has gone by thanks to the never ending ability of Youtube to load the next album etc while I have been mindfully saving and reading lots of Houzz including raiding photos from Luke Buckle's idea books. (Thanks Luke!) The outside world has been buzzing along without distracting me, I am lost in the world of Houzz & might be here for days unless I am rescued by someone offering food and water. Now to get to the bottom of this rant, tycho & similar types of music is apparently what young people listen to when they are on their computers working on something important that we parents will never understand. (My son is working on an app apparently) As they have headphones on we have to physically interrupt them for the likes of dinner, bin emptying, cleaning etc and this is why there is a generation gap caused by people like me not getting with the times. All I want to do is go to a spa for neck therapy!
