Help! I need help updating my bedroom.

I can't place my finger on it but something feels wrong. Should I move my bed against the long wall or keep it where it is?

I would put the bed on the longest wall a little off center to the left and put the desk under the window. Then you have a view when your working at the computer instead of looking at the wall.

The desk is on the biggest wall in the room which is to the left of the bed.

Hi Fred, Thanks for the want of the precise measurements. The U shape area in my kitchen is 64" - 104 - 99" (left - centre - right). Height of the kitchen area is 107". The wall with the fridge has total length of 99" Fridge is 32" wide, 29" deep, 73" high (I bought this fridge on a good bargain but realized it was slightly oversized in this kitchen area, but got to live with it now) The wall beside the fridge is 23" deep I know some gap has to be left between this wall, the fridge and the wall mounted/countertop cabinets for ventilation I guess. So I'd say the cabinets on this wall will have a length of only 63"/64"? The microwave is 18.5 wide, 13" deep, 10.5" high The oven is 24" wide, 24" deep, 24" high. The wall next to the fridge which will have this feature cabinet 42" wide, 110" high which is next to the main door. I'm thinking the feature wall is kind of plain, but it covers up where the fridge is sticking out.

I like Karen Brenner's suggestion and if there is enough clearance, I think it would work well. I would recommend opaque window panel (without tie backs) that are hung as close to the ceiling as possible. For standard 8' ceilings, it will visually heighten the ceilings. Layered bedding and a headboard could also improve the appeal of your room.

I agree to switch the bed and desk. I like the nickel lamp on the desk. The two nightstand lamps could use an update. Easy cheap fix spray paint the base either a neutral or a pop of color to tie into your bedding.

Hi there, I think from looking at the pictures that updating your room needs a little bit more than just moving your furniture around. Unfortunately, I can´t tell from the pictures if the window is really a window or a french door? and I´m not sure where the entrance door is and if you have a built in wardrobe or a free standing one somewhere in the room.

Anyway, I think that there are several things to tackle here:
1. I would start by changing the colour scheme in your room. The window frame and skirtings could be painted white to make the room look a bit more fresh and contemporary. The walls can be painted in a beige or magnolia colour, although the wall on where the bed is going to go can be treated with a nice, modern wall paper that matches and contrasts the beige on the other walls.
2. I also think that if you move your bed to the shortest wall, making sure that you have enough space to put your bedside tables on either side of the bed, that means at least 60cm on each side, it will work better, so you can have the longest wall to treat it with nice paintings/ pictures.
3. Manon´s idea, above, of a head board is a definite yes.
4. I would remove curtains and poles completely. If you definitely need some kind of blind, then you could keep the one on the photograph or perhaps install a roman blind, again in a colour that matches the new colour scheme of the room.
5. And with respect to your last question about the lamps, my opinion is yes, change them if you can. There are really nice directional bedside lamps that do not cost the earth and it will make your room look more cosy at night. I would also change the lamp on the desk to go in tune with the new ones on the bedside tables, so the whole scheme comes together.
6. Finally, I would recommend "dressing" your bed with really nice bedlinen and you could even make some cushions in different sizes, if you are feeling crafty.
7. Personalise the room with you own touches, may be a nice wide painting above the bed? perhaps some photographs of family and friends in matching frames?

Also I do not have any dresser in the bedroom. It is in the closet which is in the door that is right to the bed.

What colour[s] are your walls?
Taupe, green, or ????

Are your sheers pink?

Little color is visible in your bedding.

It is impossible to suggest colours unless you tell us what colours are in your bedding.

You may have trouble navigating around that bed if u move it to the other wall/and it may make the room look even smaller...give it a try and post a pic if u want to please..:) Agree with drapes being changed to hang ceiling to floor.

The sheers are a light tan.

I think the walls are sage but I am not exactly sure. But it is a mixture of green and blue.

The bedding is called Marin Bedding by Calvin Klein. It has shadowy layers of field flowers in hues of peat, stone and sky.

Is that enough information but also clear?

How about a sky throw across the foot of the bed, and a few pillow?

And spray paint the lamp base either blue or peach.

The pillows could be a "test run".

lahti101, is not doing the curtains until summer, so maybe she should live with the two accent colours
before deciding.

I have no idea what color drapes to do, nor style...I know what I like when I see it, however....she asked what color drapes...but I imagine it is a good idea to wait to figure out which colors she is going with! Thx!

Looks like a nice large window that should not be blocked by furniture. Updated to simple drapery panels of roman shades would make the room feel lighter.

I'm assuming that is a bathroom we see through the door on the side of the bed. Optimal rest and secure sleep is attained when the bed is opposite the entry door, so you approach the foot of the bed when you come in the room. When you paint your walls this summer, paint the vents to match that color.

I like the update on the furniture arrangement ! The lamp on gbe desk is too tall for the window. put it on the left of the dresser and get a "desk lamp". Now pick a really pale lavender for the walls, add some pillows in lavender, silver and deep purple to add the wow factor.
