Help with an open plan kitchen, dining and living area...
Comments (19)Hi, Could you add a pic of the lounge area outside bedrooms? There seem to be too many palettes of colours within furniture from white tv cabinet to dark brown book shelf to light brown dining to black/blue/beige sitting pieces. Tie up sitting by adding few cushions in possibly black/white/blue combo. Extend sitting area of living through the entire span of AC wall. You need a larger rug for this space. Angle dining table between 30 to 45 degrees with long length between detached counter corner to bookshelf end towards lounge. This will add the flow to lounge. Add a table runner along the centre of the long length. You need larger artwork pics or a collection of art pieces on living room wall behind beige sofa. Lounge can have a console and wall with a composition of family picture frames to personalise space. Remove blue artwork in the last pic. Instead, you can add a composition of wall shelves with artefacts on them or wall hooks with hanging artefacts. Comments (11)I opened my earlier post to edit the paint name in case you ever want to paint non-tufted, no-nap fabric. Unfortunately, my cat Linguine loves the binging and bonging sounds of the computer when he stands on the keyboard. Not helpful. It disappeared so... here is the name: Simply Spray Fabric Paint for Upholstery. (They have your charcoal gray) It did not make the fabric crunchy, stiff or weird. Nobody wants crunchy, stiff, or weird :-) Again, I would not paint the fabric on your gorgeous bed but I would change the wood color. The black edge and empty white room are the reasons it looks heavy. If you paint the black, I would suggest using an artist brush on the edge that meets the fabric even with fabric covered. House or painter's brushes are too wide for good control in that tight space. They are not as flexible as artists brushes nor as small. The Paris bed I mentioned was gray velvet and soft matte metallic gold wood. Soft, romantic, dreamy and transporting to a world of Princesses and Kings. Comments (2)Congrats on your new flat. Love the fun and playful kitchen - way to go using color. Gray, white and red can then be used throughout your small space, though in different measure. Perhaps a pale gray painted bedroom - bm moonshine with all white bedding, layer in a charcoal chair and throw, art with red. All white bath, red towels. Living room gray upholstery, multicolored rug with red in it - modern graphic style. Mid-tone gray walls - match your countertop to make it cozy, but use an ikat print at the windows with white and gray and red. 11 years agoLike the black and white photo idea.... Maybe 2 hung vertically over each night stand and framed so that you have lots of matting???

11 years agolast modified: 11 years agoI noticed that you used green accents displayed on each night stand. You might want to repeat it for the for balance - bedding with small green accents, wall art, a pillow, a throw.
You could add some trims / mouldings on the walls just above the nightstands . I'll add a photo even if is not exactly what I have in mind. And some wall art above the headboard.
Or you could just hang bigger wall art above the headboard.
Also the right table lamps would bring in a lot of character. I would look for some slightly taller but definitely with a wider base to balance the headboard. The lamp shade in a warm cream color would also help. Also , if you choose some lamps with a different base than wood, will help brake the monotony

11 years agoIt seems I cannot find a picture to match exactly what I have in mind with simple decorative trim just above the nightstands - somewhat like the last picture I add in this post.
I added some pictures for some details - first one for the lamps, the next one to get an idea how mirrors would look above the nightstands, and the 3rd one for the good balance and light.

11 years agoKeitha, I bought 3 14x18 inch matted frames to put my France photos in above the headboard - I just set them on top for you too look at before I hang them. Does this look right? Too small, too big, vertical, horizontal?!?!? Love the advice you are giving me :)

11 years agoI think one quick fix is to tilt the decorative pillows a little more upright. In the photo they look like they are leaning too far back and that tends to flatten the look. Throw a rusty red throw at the end of the bed or maybe on a chair and that would be great. I agree with the suggestion of a neutral drapery but not a sheer. I like your grommet style but a neutral fabric. Try bed bath and beyond or JCPenney. They both have some nice neutral grommet drapes. I would suggest a nice weight fabric (similar to the attached photo). It looks richer and hangs better. The last thing I suggest is to get some iron on tape and attach a black border around the drapes. It would make them pop and tie in with the black picture frames! You are doing great...
