Covering popcorn ceiling

What do you think of using Armstrong planks to cover popcorn ceiling? Our ceiling is big. Is this a good long term solution for huge room with vaulted ceiling.

Having scraped the popcorn ceilings in an entire house, my question is
why don't you consider having them scraped instead of covering them?
Have you compared the costs?

I have to say that well made Roman Shades are not cheap, they are the higher end of the market. Secondly the thing to consider is that they are an all or nothing product, they are either open or closed. What part of the country do you live in? What direction do the windows face, and how often are those doors used? Drapery that can not be moved completely out of the way will get caught in the doors all the time, so while I hate taking out a window for any reason, removing it might make sense as it seems rather redundant. Don't do any type of venetian if this door is used a lot, and if you do, make sure you do an outside mount, allowing for the stack to go above the frame of the doors when they are open. I suggest that you look into Hunter Douglas Polysatin Shutters, they are great on french doors, and the Hunter Douglas Duette Architella Vertiglide is perfect on doors, they also come as a duo light, meaning you can put two blinds into one product - so a sheer and an opaque or semi-opaque product. Just some thoughts to consider.

You mean general lighting? Ambient light is whatever lighting happens to be spilling into the space. Could even be from outdoors or another room. Lighting is generally divided into general, task and accent lighting. General usually being overhead and providing a base level of illumination. Task being things like lamps, vanity lights or pendants-anything helping u see better. And accent being anything used to accent or emphasize something. Sometimes the categories run together like under cabinet lights which are both task and accent. So in order to figure out what the right fixture or lamp is you have to determine is it for general, accent or task purposes. Fluorescent tubes make great general light in an office or workspace but poor task or accent light in a family room. Similarly lots of recessed lights work well in kitchens but are usually too much in bedrooms where you typically don't need much general lighting. A good vanity fixture might fulfill all three in a powder room but in a master bathroom you might need some recessed cans to provide task lighting over the shower or tub. A lamp might be enough in a bedroom but not enough for a heavy task area like a laundry room. You get the idea. It's less about the fixture and more about how it's being used.

What kind of painting to put behind my chesterfield sofa?

I'm not sure if there are any hard and fast rules but I think it needs to be probably at least half the width of the sofa to look good. In your case I would probably go for something 65-75% of the width of the sofa with maybe the height around 55-70% of the length. You could also try a large portrait style, the best thing to do is to cut out a template and hang it on the wall to see what you like as chesterfields are normally quite low. I'd also move the sofa slightly but are the ceiling lights positioned over the sofa? Hard to tell from the camera angle. I also thought of the Vintage film pics but maybe not original. My basement has a slight film theme with lighting ( actually I have a Chesterfield and cowhide too!) and I have large black and white pics of movie stars but not from film clips ie the iconic Michael Caine shot taken by David Bailey. I also love vintage travel posters, I know they've been around for quite a while now but you could find a destination that means something to you. Or look at industriał style art with a pop of colour. Or an abstract with pops of colour.

If privacy is the issue, get the sliders tinted to about 70%. You'll still get most of the natural light but will have privacy. Now, keep in mind this only works during the day. At night you are exposed. To address this, you may wish to do a floor to ceiling white sheer/linen curtains. The number of folds in the curtain will dictate the amount of visible silhouette at night. When in doubt you can use drywall, taped and sanded properly, or wood planks.

its really pretty easy to hire someone to scrape it. they give the job to the low man on the totem pole and when its finished its finished forever. i'd worry about having a lot of planks up on a large vaulted ceiling...just being too busy.
