Question about drapery rings

You guys have been so helpful! Hopefully you don't mind helping me figure out one last little detail for my drapes. If I'm going with a 1.5 inch rod, what size drapery rings do I need? I have found both 1.75 inch and 2.25 inch rings. Also, how many rings per panel? Each panel will be about 20 inches when pleated. I don't know if it matters, but we are doing a cartridge pleat. Thank you so much!

Go to photos and look at " draperies with cartridge pleats" ...lots of pictures featuring rod size and ring size...

if you go to countrycurtains.com you can see their rod sizes and the rings they've paired with them. i like their rings, they have silicon linings and slide quieter than the ones from pottery barn.

standard purchased panels have 7 rings per 50" panel.

Hello everyone, thank you for your comments. It is my first time using Houzz forum so I'm pleasantly surprised by the responses. My furniture: I have mainly neutral tone furnitures (white B&B fat fat coffee tables, B&B Solo couch with light grey textured upholstery, Eames LCW chair in birch, an opaque glass rectangular dining table with black metal legs, Starck Lizz white dining chairs, and light brown leather bed frame, Cassina Utreche dark brown leather armchairs, etc) and I spice it up with red/colorful accessories (red Vitra elephant stool, red Vitra ball clock, orange smeg fridge, etc). Hope you don't mind me going into details on the furniture. I hope to give you all an idea of how my space looks like for better advice on the curtains. I prefer curtains to blinds because I find blinds difficult to clean (I prefer to be able to wash my curtains). I agree that grey may not be a lasting colour. My current curtains are off white/beige. I have my day curtains in organza with some designs on it and night curtains in 100% cotton. However, I realize that I do get tired of the print on the day curtains so I want to try a plain one for my new home. In additon, I want more light to come through the day curtains. For the night curtains, I'm trying to avoid cotton since I realize that it shrinks easily (even dry cleaning). My curtain maker says polyester has less shrinkage and are easier to wash and does not trap dust unlike cotton. I'm toying with the idea of the linen like fabric for a slightly different feel but I've not seen this in actual curtains before and I'm worried it may not turn out well. For organza, I know it will be a safe choice. I'm torn between being on the safe side (but almost everyone else will have similar day curtains in our condo) or trying the linen. What do you all think? Will you go for safe off white/beige organza or slightly different off white/beige linen-like fabric? Sorry that my comments are so long.

I really like pale grayish sage with white. Also a cool greenish aqua for a soothing look to the bath. White or gray Corian counter. If it's a low-use bath such as a powder room, white marble would be lovely for the counter. Rug or mat on the floor with a nice pattern to hide spills, dog hair, etc. If you have a window, lovely drapes, custom shade or match-stick blinds would help warm the space. Finally, if you have a bathtub, a custom shower curtain will really dress up the space and add character/warmth. You already have your accent colour as your sofa pillows (log roll pillows). I would take one of them shopping with me to get a rug that has that colour in it. It doesn't need to be a lot of that colour (I love the idea of burgandy rug here...but it might be too much with your monotone scheme). You can find a large rug that incorporates that red/raspberry in it so that you have a colour that is now your accent.

I’ve decided to incorporate everyone’s comments. 1) Using Nippon rememberance for the wall color 2) Using pastel curtains with 3M to cover the ugly door and meter box 3) Making my own night stand from books 4) Getting a big art piece for the side wall 5) Putting a 55 inch TV at the foot of my bed for well, extravagance Some quick questions... 1) what color curtains and table top work best with this shade of grey? For the table top, I might get a fresh piece of wood and laminate myself. 2) what modern frame do you recommend for this wall and this kind of art, or should I drop the frame, and innovate, maybe just get a big piece of plastic and glue the sides? ;) 3) any fun ideas for the TV stand? I don’t want to rent a minivan just to transport the tv stand, and the space between my bed and the planned curtain is tiny - like 45cm. So I’m thinking of an adhoc tv stand and stabilising it in a different way. :) Ok, you guys have been super crazy helpful! When looking for drapery rings to fit your pole make sure they are giving you the interior dimension. That way you know if it will fit on the rod. If the sizes you mentioned earlier are the interior dimension then I would go with the larger ring size. It looks better if the rings have a little "breathing" room.

Most 1 width panels are 20" wide when pleated due to the 2.5x fullness. Cartridge pleat is usually more like 3x fullness because of how it is sewn. This usually needs 7 rings per panel.

Remember the outer most pin hooks are suppose to be returned back to the wall and not be connected to a ring. I can share a photo if you would like to see it.

Very interesting detail...altho I wonder if these will work well with a curtain that will be opened and closed by hand frequently

Yes. Actually that was why it is done. One ring goes on the outside of the bracket (between the bracket and finial) and then the last pin hook returns to the wall. These two things together ensure the drapery stays in place when it is opened and closed. The return back to the wall also helps block out as much light as possible from coming inside.

The return on custom drapery is still done even with stationary panels because of tradition.
