I think the color of the wall is quite nice. Speaking about accent on the wall I could recommend a large print on aluminum which does not require framing. HI -- Great windows !! Full white drapes right across the whole window wall , full length ceiling to floor and wall to wall . Long low 3 or 4 seat sofa or square sectional in white (leather or fabric ?) and a swivel chair or two in black (leather or fabric ?) Have the sofa and chair-s in either material just not both the same . A long reclaimed /distressed wood dining room table -- you need the wood for a bit of warmth in the room. Modern white and chrome chairs and maybe two funky statement chairs for each end of the table.Too cold and flat looking to have total black and white. An area rug for living room area -no rug under dining room table. The area rug could be one with a salt and pepper texture or a chevron pattern or similar . Then silver accents as in side table bases with glass tops and lamps . Then some big colorful modern art.

If this is in the US, you invariably will be required to pull permits, and they will invariably require an Architect for this level of re-design in a multi-family building. I'd recommend you find a qualified local professional to help you on it.

@Kayla: I love IKEA hacking too! ;) Hiding the game consoles is definitely a possibility; I can't put the speakers in a cabinet though.. It's a deal breaker for the hubs. Invest in a high quality sound system, the speakers have to be out for acoustic reasons. If only I had known that before I agreed so easily.. ;-/ @groveraxle: I love that example! You're probably right about the shelves.. there's already too much going on on that wall! I'll look into wall art instead. ;) And yes! Now I realize that part of what was annoying me was that crazy up down profile. I'll have to try and streamline it as much as possible. Maybe put one of the small rear speakers on the left with a trailing plant on top to hide it; a small end cabinet around the same height on the right for the other speaker and to make room to clear off the top of the console? @Mystic Home: That's lovely!! Using electronics as a plant stand, vase to soften the look of that speaker, putting the speaker in an end cabinet.. genius! That might be the best (and cheapest) way to make everything "disappear". I can always paint it white again when we leave. I'll run it by the hubs and the landlord. Thanks ;)) thank you all keep the ideas coming! ~<3
