Fireplace wall
I kinda hate the wood that's behind the tv. But I feel like if we just drywall every thing it will be to plain. So I'm thinking white shiplap. Should I just do above the fireplace or the whole wall?
What about those lights? Keep them or replace them or get rid of them altogether?
Should i add a new mantle and or frame around the fireplace?
Window treatments, currently I can only do tension rods because there is no where to drill in regular curtain rods. I could do blinds though, just never got around to it. So blinds, curtains or nothing at all?
Sorry so many questions but im not good at this stuff!
Fyi, This house is about 90 years old.

Comments (2)Hello Cody, If the TV isn't going on the mantle wall than the only other available wall is the 13'5" wall. You might think about moving the TV to this wall and balancing it with art or plants. Your sofa can be turned with its back to the entrance/stairs and a small console table can be placed behind it to act as a visual stop. Your chair can be placed where the sofa currently sits or you could add a pair of new chairs to this area near the stair alcove which would create a smaller seating cluster there. Small benches could be placed in front of the fire for additional seating, when and if necessary. This one is a challenge, but if you don't mind the TV as focal point and the sofa perpendicular to the fireplace, this could work. Comments (7)It looks as if you have something crumbling behind the tiles. It could be the porcelain or the wall. This once happened to me. I paid for a professional to insert a gas fire into the fire breast. Consistently we had what looked like rubble falling down the chimney. No one knew what it was and we were baffled. Then one day we had the chimney swept by an amazing chimney sweep who informed us the wall prep behind the fireplace hadn't been done properly and what was falling down was the brick and rubble which was behind and had not been cleared properly. He said it wasn't a big deal and not dangerous so we left it, although it was an inconvenience having to clean it up every day particularly in bad weather. I would advise asking a tiler to come and have a look. Maybe your bathroom tiles need sealing, maybe water is getting in. If the tiler doesn't know ask a surveyor, he may not have the answer but he will know which trade to point you in the direction of. It could simply be a case of the walls not being prepped properly before the tiles were put up. Any which way, if a large tile which could potentially fall off a wall it needs to be checked because if it landed on you it could do serious damage or cause further tile damage which would make the job of rectifying more expensive....See More

7 years agoRight now I can't do curtain rods because of the wood above the fireplace, there's no room. I'll attach a pic to show what I mean.
But when this gets replaced with all dry wall, what would be the best way to hang curtains? Or would blinds be better

7 years agoIt's a great space to work with! The windows flanking the fireplace add a wonderful amount of symmetry. I would suggest (like others have) drywalling the space above the fireplace. If you keep the brick, I would add a frame around the fireplace. If it's in your budget, and you're looking for storage solutions, I would suggest adding cabinets below the windows - it creates storage (for cable box, wifi, etc), and would allow you to decorate the space.
