LOST - color and look match
Comments (3)I would reupholster the rosewood furniture in natural canvas or a natural linen look . Ask the upholsterer to do the job with NO welting. That will make it look more contemporary. Then stop by West Elm, Pottery Barn, or Crate & Barrel for some brightly colored pillows. I'm thinking coral might work well with your tile, but you be the judge of what color works best with it. For now we'll assume it's coral. So I'd like to see one wall painted coral if you're so inclined. Otherwise, I'd leave the walls white. Next, let's cover some of that tile you don't like. Two choice: 1. A rug you'll take with you. Perhaps a shaggy offwhite one. 2. A rug you'll leave in your rental. This could be a large piece of carpeting, cut and bound like a rug. Measure for size before going to the carpet store. Most carpeting is 12' wide, so figure on making a rug 12 x something so that there is no waste, or you could make a couple of 6 x somethings. If you could change out the rosewood coffee table for another, I think you'd be happier with the furniture. It needs some variety. Even a couple of small tables from IKEA could work for 6 to 8 months....See MoreHelp with an open plan kitchen, dining and living area...
Comments (19)Hi, Could you add a pic of the lounge area outside bedrooms? There seem to be too many palettes of colours within furniture from white tv cabinet to dark brown book shelf to light brown dining to black/blue/beige sitting pieces. Tie up sitting by adding few cushions in possibly black/white/blue combo. Extend sitting area of living through the entire span of AC wall. You need a larger rug for this space. Angle dining table between 30 to 45 degrees with long length between detached counter corner to bookshelf end towards lounge. This will add the flow to lounge. Add a table runner along the centre of the long length. You need larger artwork pics or a collection of art pieces on living room wall behind beige sofa. Lounge can have a console and wall with a composition of family picture frames to personalise space. Remove blue artwork in the last pic. Instead, you can add a composition of wall shelves with artefacts on them or wall hooks with hanging artefacts. Rugs, table lamps, floor lamps and few bold decorative pieces will add the required warmth. A round centre table in the living room can be good....See MoreHelp on Cork flooring
Comments (1)Hi Lucie, Cork flooring is an excellent product for any interior. A "down stairs" area (when speaking of cork) is a "floating floor" installation. Cork/rubber combinations are all the rage at this time because of the durability/cushion. I also know the price is SIGNIFICANT when working with rubber or rubber/cork combinations. For the price of a rubber floor, you can choose a high end solid hardwood. The drawback to rubber = smell/off gassing. Even a revulcanized rubber (they burn it again to get rid of more of the smell) can still leave an unpleasant odour for quite a long time. When rubber is in direct sunlight or heat is added, the smell returns. Rubber will deteriorate in direct sunlight = crumbling. Cork will simply "fade" but not crumble. In a place like Tahoe where nature is revered, a cork floor would be a better compliment to the surroundings. Rubber can be more modern/industrial looking. Cork floating floors can go everywhere except a bathroom. This is where the glue down cork tiles come into play. Cork floating flooring can start as low as $2.29/sf and range into the $15 per square foot range (depending on the dealer). At icorkfloor.com the highest priced cork floor is the printed cork at $4.59/sf...the rest are below $4/sf. Rubber underlay starts at $4/sf and the flooring doubles that price and then ranges much higher. I would find out about VOC testing for the rubber products you are looking to use. If you or your family have any sensitivities (asthma, COPD, migraines, etc), rubber may not be an option....See MoreNeed help for living room ideas
