Are Black & Patterns overwhelming for small areas?

Hi all, I was considering the white/black patterned tile for my pantry backsplash but I am afraid that black and patterns may be overwhelming (for the eyes?) in a small 1.8m x 1.8m pantry.

The backsplash area to tile is L-shaped with one wall at about 150cm in length, and the other at about 130cm. Height is 60cm throughout.

An alternative would be the similar patterned tile in white/grey, but the colour scheme won't "pop" as much? Or should I just use a plain glossy white tile?
