Help with open floor plan.
Almost 10 years ago we updated our 1970 Bi-Level home by taking down all the walls and adding an island that seats 4. After searching endlessly for stools I settled on my current ones but they were only meant to be a temporary fix. I have continued to search over the years for new stools and am currently at a loss with what to do. The first picture are my current stools and no the wreaths are not always there. I wanted to give a feel for the color of the island. I plan to lighten the walls after the holidays but the dining table and chairs are staying. The only change I may make to the dining area is adding fabric chairs to the end. The counter stools I'm currently looking at are the Dayna Stools from Ballard Design and I'm thinking about getting them in rubbed cream. My question is will the lighter color be ok? I like the back design on the stools I thought it would look cleaner. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Comments (7)So you just want to enclose the top area to make it a place to sleep? Does it need to have a kitchen and bathroom or just a sleeping area? I am not an architect but you might want to ask more direct questions like " How can I enclose this upper floor to make it livable?". It looks like you live in a very mild climate. Perhaps you should put up wood walls with windows that match the design on the balcony panels. You are so right @decoenthusiaste the view is beautiful and one reason why I chose the apartment. the room is longer than it is wide, and I wanted the kitchen/bar to be included in the seating so the attached pic is how I was planning to lay it out. @cdrdesign I can't/change the table, its a gorgeous mahogany piece I had custom made and one I see keeping for some years yet! I dont plan a TV in this room, will put it in another room. This room in for living and entertaining guests. Sorry I dont have layout software, so you will have to make do with my scribbles using powerpoint! Comments (15)Hi Miaw, ok your plan looking good. some comments. 1. would you consider a smaller foyer. some suspense at entry before the wow moment 2. island can be bigger where you can put your sink and some stools. 3. I think some walls not necessary to make it feel more space 4. that store room blocking the window, would you like to open this to bring more natural light, fresher by cross ventilation air moving from one window and out to other. 5. the common bathroom is outside at wet kitchen really? 6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoHave you considered a wood that is stained in just a lighter or different tone? Something like this maybe? I think a different tone of wood in a style that is more in sync with what you have style wise already would be pretty and not distrupt the flow you have. If not in the direction of the color shown here than another tone. I just don’t have time to look around anymore.
