Hand painting stripes on the wall

I want to paint stripes like the below in my son's bedroom but don't want it to look a mess once I've finished.
Any advice please on how to get neat stripes???

Hi we hand painted our daughter's room and it came out fab. All you need to do is carefully measure the area top to bottom and the width of the stripes. We achieved our straight lines by using a bit of string coated in chalk and making sure that you are happy the string is straight a quick snap creates the perfect line. We then taped along the line with frog decorators tape and painted the stripes.

To be honest I'd get a wallpaper rather than attempt to do it myself. You do have to be extremely careful when taping up and ensuring you don't get any bleeding. Wallpaperdirect.com do a wallpaper very similar to the picture you posted. https://www.wallpaperdirect.com/products/eco-wallpaper/wide-lustre-stripe/137306
Alternatively you could get a professional decorator to do it for you.

Hi, Could you add a pic of the lounge area outside bedrooms? There seem to be too many palettes of colours within furniture from white tv cabinet to dark brown book shelf to light brown dining to black/blue/beige sitting pieces. Tie up sitting by adding few cushions in possibly black/white/blue combo. Extend sitting area of living through the entire span of AC wall. You need a larger rug for this space. Angle dining table between 30 to 45 degrees with long length between detached counter corner to bookshelf end towards lounge. This will add the flow to lounge. Add a table runner along the centre of the long length. You need larger artwork pics or a collection of art pieces on living room wall behind beige sofa. Lounge can have a console and wall with a composition of family picture frames to personalise space. Remove blue artwork in the last pic. Instead, you can add a composition of wall shelves with artefacts on them or wall hooks with hanging artefacts. Rugs, table lamps, floor lamps and few bold decorative pieces will add the required warmth. A round centre table in the living room can be good.

What do you think of a mirror for the backsplash on the kitchen? You cant see the pic here, but it faces a huge window on the other side of the room. I love the idea of grey/ dark cabinets, (with a wood coloured surface worktop) but might cost a small fortune to rework it. Will check on prices. The wallpaper idea is also really nice - much to mull through. so hard to decide! I'm thinking of replacing the dining table set with a booth + round table seating and maybe add a mirror behind it space. Not sure if i can fit a whole L booth into the dining space and still fit in a table, so might just settle for a booth on one side.

So is it a chair and a sofa? If nothing else they are a conversation piece! No one could ever enter your room w/o saying something. I love your idea. But if you are serious, remove the like striped pillow covers, and replace them with plain any colored pillow covers or continue the fun & add a zig zag black & white area rug & one or two more striped items, such as lamps & a painted zebra coffee table. I love it.

Patrina that's fab!! well done! thanks for the tip...I now feel more confident to give it a go...so the tape you used wasn't standard masking tape?

Well I used frog because it's always proved to be a better quality for me an minimal to no paint bleed. I think doing it yourself gives you a certain satisfaction. We were only the "contractors" on this our now 8yr planned and designed the room.

Don't use standard masking tape, as if the walls were not properly primed it can remove all previous paint right down to the plaster and then it looks awful and is hard to rectify. I would test the wall first with some paint and Frog tape just in case.

We did a similar thing in a living room. There is a trick; paint the base colour, once dried (days not hours) test the base with masking tape (Frog tape is less likely to peel surface paint) to make sure it wont come off when you peel the tape. Then apply the tape using a spirit level for accuracy. One applied, paint over the edges again with the base colour- this way the base colour is the paint that bleeds under the tape and creates a seal. Once dried you can paint the colour of the stripe. Remove the tape and you should have a nice crisp line.
