Cement 'growing' in bathroom floor, help!
Comments (7)It looks as if you have something crumbling behind the tiles. It could be the porcelain or the wall. This once happened to me. I paid for a professional to insert a gas fire into the fire breast. Consistently we had what looked like rubble falling down the chimney. No one knew what it was and we were baffled. Then one day we had the chimney swept by an amazing chimney sweep who informed us the wall prep behind the fireplace hadn't been done properly and what was falling down was the brick and rubble which was behind and had not been cleared properly. He said it wasn't a big deal and not dangerous so we left it, although it was an inconvenience having to clean it up every day particularly in bad weather. I would advise asking a tiler to come and have a look. Maybe your bathroom tiles need sealing, maybe water is getting in. If the tiler doesn't know ask a surveyor, he may not have the answer but he will know which trade to point you in the direction of. It could simply be a case of the walls not being prepped properly before the tiles were put up. Any which way, if a large tile which could potentially fall off a wall it needs to be checked because if it landed on you it could do serious damage or cause further tile damage which would make the job of rectifying more expensive....See MoreHow can I spice up my boring balcony?
Comments (8)Artificial turf! The green (they come in different colours, too, if you'd like to be psychedelic) adds a lively pop of colour to a blah space, and they're designed in easy-to-install tile-style units that have some built-in drainage for minimal maintenance. Absolut Outdoors and Green Turf can tell you more :) And I'd hang an outdoor art piece or a screen for air plants on that blank wall, too, to enliven your balcony....See MoreWhere/what plants to get to decorate bedroom?
Comments (7)Money plants are super easy to maintain! I've had mine for the past 7 months since moving in to our new flat and it is growing wildly around its 1.5m pole with minimal care. Cacti don't need much attention as well and make for nice decorative plants especially in toilets where you might not get much sunlight. The air plant in your second picture was actually being sold at my neighbourhood pasar malam and I was very close to getting it (apparently it only needs occasional spraying of water) but it wasn't quite my style and I went for a different plant that I'm still trying to figure out the name of. :)...See MoreWhy Destroy Ellison Building?
Comments (8)Hi Angry Singaporean, We feel for you and share the same sentiments. In the name of 'progress' we see many old buildings and and also many green/forested areas being torn down and cleared for new much need housing and office space. Its easy for us to blame the govt board to be insensitive to our heritage areas and conservation of old buildings especially when architecture like this has been gazetted as a conservation structure. Lets hope that URA will not tear down this building but try and maintain a fine balance and keep the facade of the building at least and build whatever required monstrocity they want behind it. By incorporating our past and future perhaps we can maintain that fine balance. Whilst, i see the reason for URA to re purpose this area for the North South tunnel works, on a personal note, i dont see why we need more commercial buildings in the area as there are so many empty spaces at the moment along the whole stretch of Selegie Road. It would be a shame to erect yet another building at sky rocket prices and pass costs on to tenants. I am a die hard fan of "mum and pop" shops. I frequent them even if i dont have anything at all to buy and always buy something. The nostalgia of these establishments remind us of who we are and where we belong. Otherwise its all the same tenants all over the city from Orchard to Woodlands. Perhaps URA could investigate on new building and architectural technology to conserve the building facade somehow. One can dream....See MoreTom Howard Garden Design and Landscaping
