Even if a bathroom is art deco it can still be clean. There are some amazing designs that comprise your minimalist aspirations whilst still reflecting art deco themes. The difference is that one is more "flexible"" than the other... It boils down to how daring you want to be... (and tiles are expensive to buy and replace)

if you lighten the cabinets etc, then the stone will appear more prominent. if that is what you want, that is fine. I sensed that you did not like the current counter. I would contact a marble/granite installer to see if they think that the cracks can be filled and polished out. it is pretty common to do this on new installations if it is feasible. they may try to charge you as as much as you would spend on a fabricating a counter out of a new slab if they did not do the original installation.

If privacy is the issue, get the sliders tinted to about 70%. You'll still get most of the natural light but will have privacy. Now, keep in mind this only works during the day. At night you are exposed. To address this, you may wish to do a floor to ceiling white sheer/linen curtains. The number of folds in the curtain will dictate the amount of visible silhouette at night. Amazing photos! I think it all depends on your style. I like a very simple and minimal spaces with hints of texture or strong graphics. I would love an all white bathroom with moroccan inspired grey tiles or maybe even graphic tiles. I don't think it's a risk at all!
