wall or no wall at end of kitchen bench

Hi All,
After your opinion on if we should have a wall at the end of the kitchen bench or leave it open. We have a large window at the kitchen.

Having a wall here would enable you to also add additional features like floating shelves, artwork etc to really complete the space. It would separate the kitchen from the dining area more as well, to make it really noticeable of being a separate space.

Personally I would have it, noting you have a walk in pantry and other places for kettle toaster etc. I would actually extend the bench to the dotted line and maybe continue joinery across into dining space. It looks cramped stopping at end of window and not balanced with island and family room

You could do fold down tables for the study space. Have some built ins 12 or 14 inches and have the table fold down and you could make it as big as you wanted. Lots of ideas if you search photos. Good luck! [houzz=] [houzz=] [houzz=] [houzz=]

Hi Dagobert Duck (interesting name), I am assuming that this is a townhouse in Asia, as you mention the dry kitchen and wet kitchen (terms used mostly in Singapore) and also from the visible lift on the plan that you shared. I would definitly advice you to keep the dry kitchen and place the dining table close to the dry kitchen or close to the bay window on the left. The space here is rather large and can easily accommodate a regular 2 metre table with 8 chairs. If you are concerned about the view of dining table as you enter the house, you could always place a round table near the entrance to block off the view. I agree with Elaine about placing the furniture away from walls. Place a bunch of fresh flowers or art/sculpture above the round table like in a hotel entrance. So the the first view you see when you enter the house is the table with flowers. Its difficult to give you any further advice as we have no idea what your final vision of the place is? have the sofa and dining table in the center. Dining table against the back of the sofa either the longer or shorter side. Can shift table to accomodate more people. Extendable table prefered. Push the table and sofa nearer to window to have more walking space. You can have a storage / shoe cabinet against the bomb shelter wall.

I started with a design dilemma, and got some good advice from some very kind people on Houzz. The transformation took more time to figure out then it did to complete the construction. My advice to anyone wanting a new space is to do your research, without rushing into decisions, which can be difficult when working with some, because of the 'sale deadline'! Guess what? There will always be another sale! In fact, by taking my time I ended up being able to keep all of the organization options I wanted and ended up with such a great sale that I was able to upgrade to custom solid wood cabinets and drawers for the same price as my original stock cabinets with MDF panels. By customizing the sizes of cabinets, I was able to create more space to open up the small kitchen for a spacious feel. My contractor helped me achieve the built in pantry wall which puts all of my spices, canned goods, etc., right in front of me to see exactly what I have or need to replenish. But, my favorite part of this kitchen is what the contractor did with my narrow and deep closet. It was widened and turned into a dry bar with microwave and roll out storage. Having a place for my coffee maker and microwave was key, so I could keep the new expanse of counter space visible! Removing the 'bump up' wall of my original counter offered a more open concept feel, which was a great improvement. Same, include the wall but extend to the dotted line to give a better balance when looking into the kitchen - the island will look more centred. A thought, you could extend lower joinery on the other side of this wall to create a buffet for your dining room that connects visually, you could use identical cabinetry or the same profile & handles but in a different colour.

I’m just having another look at kitchen. The elevation B show one tall window visible from family room. What the view from this window. The kitchen seems so unbalanced when viewed from family room

The green line is the plasterboard wall at the end that I was originally questioning if needed. Box shelf added as think it finishes the edge to the window better.

I would not put a wall there. In my opinion it will close the space and visually stop the fixed window being the feature.

Looks beautiful. The pendant lights provide some balance for the open shelving, which being open with no upright against window add to spaciousness of window. By contrast your design is boxing in the window

You could extend the joinery past the dining area to be like a buffet.

I agree that the wall doesn't really make any sense unless you were going to use it as an edge for a window seat or something

I would go without the wall, that window is a visual feature to be seen from all spaces
