Need help choosing kitchen backsplash

We are down to two choices for a backspash - both porcelain tile that have the look of natural stone. With either, we would do the subway 3 by 6 everywhere except over the range, where we would do a square of 1 by 1's on either a diagonal or straight pattern outlined with pencil molding. The first few photos are of the island, cabinets, and granite. The range hood is not yet up, but is a burnished copper. Granite is ice brown, cabinets are canvas and the island cabinets are cognac. The 3rd and 4th photos show the backslash choices. I am leaning toward the tile in photo 3 because it has both gray and brown tones, both of which are in the granite, as well as in our hood. The 4th choice is mostly brown. Thanks in advance for your help!

You are so right @decoenthusiaste the view is beautiful and one reason why I chose the apartment. the room is longer than it is wide, and I wanted the kitchen/bar to be included in the seating so the attached pic is how I was planning to lay it out. @cdrdesign I can't/change the table, its a gorgeous mahogany piece I had custom made and one I see keeping for some years yet! I dont plan a TV in this room, will put it in another room. This room in for living and entertaining guests. Sorry I dont have layout software, so you will have to make do with my scribbles using powerpoint! Comments (14)Hi Fred, Thanks for the want of the precise measurements. The U shape area in my kitchen is 64" - 104 - 99" (left - centre - right). Height of the kitchen area is 107". The wall with the fridge has total length of 99" Fridge is 32" wide, 29" deep, 73" high (I bought this fridge on a good bargain but realized it was slightly oversized in this kitchen area, but got to live with it now) The wall beside the fridge is 23" deep I know some gap has to be left between this wall, the fridge and the wall mounted/countertop cabinets for ventilation I guess. So I'd say the cabinets on this wall will have a length of only 63"/64"? The microwave is 18.5 wide, 13" deep, 10.5" high The oven is 24" wide, 24" deep, 24" high. The wall next to the fridge which will have this feature cabinet 42" wide, 110" high which is next to the main door. Comments (2)Hi Alice, that's a really good question - challenging dilemma with a strong limitation (no hacking!) but I believe workable. Would you consider making changes to the backsplash? Adding some strip lighting will help too. Given the pink checkered floor tiles cannot be changed, I'd favour going for very neutral and clean looking cabinetry - to reduce visual clutter and bring in some harmony. Regardless of colour of finish choice, I prefer cabinetry that's not see-through. 10 years agoI agree with the above mentioned and would go with the sample on the left (1st board) . Consider a minimum of an 1/8 inch grout joint when installing or you may risk it all bleeding together and looking like one big sheet of tile.

10 years agoThe color of the granite looks more "greenish" than the tile board on the left. Maybe it's the photo? A darker tile would not conflict with all the light tones but be in contrast to the light cabinets and counter top. The darker tile would also incorporate the island cabinet finish. I've attached an idea for you to consider.
