Need Update Advice

We just bought a house! I am torn on how to update this living room. I would like to paint the wood white but am unsure if I should leave the wooden beams as exposed wood and stain darker? Definitely a new light fixture and remove popcorn ceilings. Ideas are welcome!

Depending on how you like the color of the fireplace surround, don't overlook your options in paint color on brick. Darker stain on wood and a lighter paint on surround and walls might offer a nice contrast.

What year is this home? Is there hardwoods underneath the carpet? Will the carpet be coming up? Can we see the view of the room from the other side? And can we have a close-up of the wainscoting?

I very much agree with what Beverly said regarding adding shutters to your home. You don't have the space on either side of the windows to accommodate appropriately sized shutters. Awnings would definitely be an option. Since you're in the Caribbean, you can add color by using a brightly striped awning. One shutter option that you could consider would be a Bahama Shutter. Since they mount at the top of the windows, you wouldn't have any problem adding them if you like.

if you lighten the cabinets etc, then the stone will appear more prominent. if that is what you want, that is fine. I sensed that you did not like the current counter. I would contact a marble/granite installer to see if they think that the cracks can be filled and polished out. it is pretty common to do this on new installations if it is feasible. they may try to charge you as as much as you would spend on a fabricating a counter out of a new slab if they did not do the original installation.

have the sofa and dining table in the center. Dining table against the back of the sofa either the longer or shorter side. Can shift table to accomodate more people. Extendable table prefered. Push the table and sofa nearer to window to have more walking space. You can have a storage / shoe cabinet against the bomb shelter wall.

Hi, I think the Guest room has to move next to the yard as it needs a window. This will free-up space centrally and improve dining - dry kitchen experience. How extensive is your reno? are you redoing the whole interior?

I don't think the reddish orange wall color is doing that woodwork any favors. I would cover that with primer before I made any decisions about the wood.
