Need help picking a rug!!

I have a red, green, and gold chair. Trying to figure out what color rug would go best. My walls are a light/pale yellow and I have a tan/gold sofa.

I would love a red or green rug, would pull all colors together. A couple throw pillows in red and green on the tan couch and you are styling!

One refinement on the all white solution: get three distinct whites for walls, ceiling, and trim. While you are considering marine-gloss magenta for the dining room, you will feel less as though you are a prisoner in a stark white box. Benjamin Moore has some lovely, non-stark whites and off whites in their classic whites group. Thanks for your comments, its great to discuss with houzers! You are so right @decoenthusiaste the view is beautiful and one reason why I chose the apartment. the room is longer than it is wide, and I wanted the kitchen/bar to be included in the seating so the attached pic is how I was planning to lay it out. @cdrdesign I can't/change the table, its a gorgeous mahogany piece I had custom made and one I see keeping for some years yet! I dont plan a TV in this room, will put it in another room. This room in for living and entertaining guests. Sorry I dont have layout software, so you will have to make do with my scribbles using powerpoint! Could really do with help on choosing the light fitting in place of the central fan- what would look nice here or should I wait till the furniture gets here to choose the light to match?

You already have your accent colour as your sofa pillows (log roll pillows). I would take one of them shopping with me to get a rug that has that colour in it. It doesn't need to be a lot of that colour (I love the idea of burgandy rug here...but it might be too much with your monotone scheme). You can find a large rug that incorporates that red/raspberry in it so that you have a colour that is now your accent.

to compliment on your wall colours and not to compete with the pattern in your upholstery - I'd go with the red gold area rug. Rugs shown are from Rug Studio.com

I would do a olive green multicolored oriental rug to set off the colors of the walls and furniture.

Green is going to ground your space the best, not fight either gold or yellow tones on wall and primary upholstery. Found this one quick at overstock - don't worry about matching greens you just want to layer in more tones. You could play it safe and do a simple sisal. But, for fun, layer a cowhide on top. :) Like this...
