living room arrangement

So I have moved the living room furniture, taken your previous advice and aimed to create a focal point of the room. I am working with the furniture that I have at hand. I'm enjoying the new set up much better, some thing just still doesn't seem right? Maybe lighting ? Thanks in advance!!!

I think the fireplace is too small and look too much fake and the clock is too big.

Thanks for your comments, its great to discuss with houzers! You are so right @decoenthusiaste the view is beautiful and one reason why I chose the apartment. the room is longer than it is wide, and I wanted the kitchen/bar to be included in the seating so the attached pic is how I was planning to lay it out. @cdrdesign I can't/change the table, its a gorgeous mahogany piece I had custom made and one I see keeping for some years yet! I dont plan a TV in this room, will put it in another room. This room in for living and entertaining guests. Sorry I dont have layout software, so you will have to make do with my scribbles using powerpoint! Could really do with help on choosing the light fitting in place of the central fan- what would look nice here or should I wait till the furniture gets here to choose the light to match?

I like the industrial feel of the art, Poonam. I've put together a mood board, concentrating on the grungy industrial colours. I think you probably have room for a small sectional, and a few bar stools at the kitchen counter -- probably no more seating than that. I love this round coffee table, and the fact that the 'distressed' rug really does look as though it might have been in a workshop somewhere. :-) I imagine you might be mounting a TV on the left wall as you enter? Nowhere else to put one, really. If you could get a really shallow TV cabinet to put it on that would be good as it could give you a bit of storage in the room. Which may be small, by the way, but it's fabulous. Congratulations.

Hi Kharan, Haiku and Big Ass Fans come to mind when I read 'modern ceiling fans'. Hope that helps! As for the door that you're looking at, I believe that would be a custom-built one as it's designed to match the house's overall look, and it's not a standard size. Best to talk to your architect or interior designer, as Sugarbakers suggested.

Hi 4evazx, I believe that you had given your designer a good and clear brief of your wants and needs and discussed all details with your designer. Your designer has done a great job as i can see from the floor plan and lighting layout. Trust your instinct and have faith in your designer. The only thing i would recommend is that you get your 12w downlight at 4000k. This is a natural daylight glow and is great in apartments. Do post pictures of your apartment when its done. Enjoy the process.

I know....taking from one spot to another does that, but it would be nice to play with that red in the room and have it both places. I like the vase with the art and I like this size. OK....leave that there and go to the piece where you put the clock, and bring in the little white pitcher that is on the top and try it there, too.

@abbyjean going back to a previous comment about a chair being by the fireplace, I had a matching chair in here and it was wayyyy too much furniture. In a dream world I'd have new furniture haha and maybe a new house ! Lol!

Well, what if you were to trade the love seat for the chair? Usually only one person sits on a love seat, so a chair would seat the same number of people.

Could that larger book shown above work on the coffee table and place that fun elephant on top of it.

I have moved the chair Into the master bedroom and love it there far too much to bring it back downstairs lol! Besides, the love seat doesn't have another place it would fit

Loves the books and candle! Maybe add a pop of green with a short potted green... something like this .... the shorter plant in the front :)

Well, at least the chair has a home and it all works. No need for new furniture....this all works as you have a basic color to play with and red is a fun accent.

OK....flowers go back to the coffee table and the pile of books and candle comes back, with the tea pot added. Always best to work with odd numbers. The books and candle really count as one, so with the teapot....only two. We need one more item to make it feel right.

@summer love that ! I will be able to pot some herbs when the nice weather comes in! Unfortunately my beautiful roses won't last forever !

OK....try scooting the books in a bit and placing the plant on top of the pile....but not centered on the stack. Right now things are lined up too much. Then place the candle beside the stack of books, within a few inches. The teapot gets the other end of the mantel for itself, but not all the way to the edge.

I think dark coloured bookcases either side of the fireplace would "beef" it up some. Not taller than the FP and the same dark color. Then you could put a larger piece of art & fill up that wall some.

You are good! Sorry about the bossy pants tonight, but love playing with posters that are sooo willing to try things....and not spend any money doing it!!! I actually like this. How does it feel in the room? Sometimes this is all that is needed to make a balance that was missing before.

I think a red throw....I love throws in a room for that cozy factor and texture....and a pillow with some red on one seating piece will tie the fun accents together.

YES! There you go! I like that!!! Walk away and see what it is like when you come downstairs in the morning and it is all fresh and not so IN YOUR FACE like it is now. Are you ok with the red teapot missing from another place? I am not making fun, but I know what it is like to mess up one place to make another place work.

That is amazing! Is that fresh tea leaves? Sorry, I know nothing about tea, but love this display!!! And how it is right there for you to sort through and enjoy!!! I would have a different tea cup every day!

Yes all loose leaf teas! I recently moved my cabinet downstairs silly of me to have had it upstairs when I make tea downstairs. Now I can easily share with guests! You should check out the website www.mysteepedtea.com/ilovesteepedtea

You room is looking great. I still think the problem is the size of the fireplace. What if you used paint or wallpaper to add width. You could trim the edge with a piece of molding. It would be easy to paint it back when you sell. Excuse my paint job.

The problem as others have stated is the too small and fake fireplace. There's really not much you can do about it. Trying some tricks might make it seem even smaller and faker. I would recommend replacing it with furniture for example, like side table/credenza(or a larger fireplace if you must) and add big, interesting art instead of clock.

I agree about the fireplace, but unfortunately if I remove it right now that room will be very cold. I don't plan on keeping the fireplace forever, but it's doing its job for now. I'd love to replace it with a more beautiful piece, but it's unfortunately not in the budget right now :(
