KItchen Cabinet Color Ideas. Light Floors and Light Cabinets = Unhappy Homeowner

Hello, Moving into a house with a newer kitchen. Granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances. Problem is - I hate the cabinet color. Too light for me. Would love some ideas on what I can do for cabinet color while not changing anything else. Don't want an expensive project like new granite, floors, etc...Attached are some pictures.

Would love white cabinets, or another sleek looking option. My concern: changing the cabinet color will clash with the black/green granite and light color wood floors. Am I off base here? Specific examples would help!

How much would it cost to redo all of the cabinet colors throughout kitchen?

I would like to see you put a bright area rug under the table,then maybe some red and silver and yellow decorations

I think painting the cabinets either white or a dark brown would be nice, but with the counter color, I would probably go with white or soft gray. You could even pull a greenish gray from your backsplash and would look nice with your yellow pendant lights. Nice kitchen, by the way, I'm having the same color dilemma with my cabinets but I like the way yours go all the way to the ceiling! I'm not sure how much it costs. I'm going to attempt it myself as I live on a very tight budget which is why I haven't done it yet...haven't gotten the nerve!

Hi, Could you add a pic of the lounge area outside bedrooms? There seem to be too many palettes of colours within furniture from white tv cabinet to dark brown book shelf to light brown dining to black/blue/beige sitting pieces. Tie up sitting by adding few cushions in possibly black/white/blue combo. Extend sitting area of living through the entire span of AC wall. You need a larger rug for this space. Angle dining table between 30 to 45 degrees with long length between detached counter corner to bookshelf end towards lounge. This will add the flow to lounge. Add a table runner along the centre of the long length. You need larger artwork pics or a collection of art pieces on living room wall behind beige sofa. Lounge can have a console and wall with a composition of family picture frames to personalise space. Remove blue artwork in the last pic. Instead, you can add a composition of wall shelves with artefacts on them or wall hooks with hanging artefacts. Rugs, table lamps, floor lamps and few bold decorative pieces will add the required warmth. A round centre table in the living room can be good.

Hi Few points: 1. It's not an independent residential apartment. It is a flat in a 25storey block 2. I have attached the floor plan for reference. The entrance is not too huge. 3. It's good to know that you guys have liked the Bathroom & kitchen design. The tiling work is in progress and it has come out well. I will take few snaps and post 4. When I say resort look - I understand and mean a simplistic natural looking design. More towards wood, nature, green, matt finish etc... Hope i am not confusing anyone here 5. Do you think the bathroom & kitchen design gels with what I mean by resort look. 6. The foyer area is a small (not too big) entrance. It's like a passage as you can see in the pics I posted earlier. When you enter you don't see the entire living room rather you see the wall (kitchen wall), where we intend to keep our dining table. Some thoughts on designing that wall is also requested Thanks!

Boy, it sure looks like the refrigerator doors open on the wrong side--can you get the developer to swap it out or change the door swing?--must be a mistake. I would find that really annoying, especially in such a small workspace. I really see a movable island parallel to the cabinets in this space with storage underneath and maybe a hanging pot rack with lights and maybe some shelving above, possibly with some stools for casual dining. Do you have room for something like that? A freestanding stainless metal full- or counter-height shelf on casters adjacent to the sink could be really helpful. You could put some simple white dishpans or bins on it as a temporary holding place for dirty dishes while you are cooking, and use the rest for overflow for big pots or pantry items. The L counter with the curved sink might be a little awkward, but sure beats not having some usable counter space. If that is all you are adding, then perhaps a cart with a shelf that flips up for extra prep or dining space would work for you. I would pay the money to get decent lighting. I think I see a thin range hood over the cooktop. If this is European, there should be wiring and a plug for the range hood, so I wouldn't think it would be too expensive to run some wire for lights Doesn't the range hood already have lights. BTW?

Hi Alice, that's a really good question - challenging dilemma with a strong limitation (no hacking!) but I believe workable. Would you consider making changes to the backsplash? Adding some strip lighting will help too. Given the pink checkered floor tiles cannot be changed, I'd favour going for very neutral and clean looking cabinetry - to reduce visual clutter and bring in some harmony. Regardless of colour of finish choice, I prefer cabinetry that's not see-through. How about natural wood finishes: All-white with wood countertops might work as well: I leave it to the professionals to give their advice!

Hello There! You have a great start to a great kitchen! Some people hate to paint stained cabinets but if you truly dislike the color I think its a fine idea. White cabinets will be drastically different than what you currently have, so to offset the white I would suggest painting the walls a slightly darker shade. Since your granite has green in it that may be a good color to introduce on the walls. you have a neutral palette and some color would really bring a little life into the space. Just remember if you paint your cabinets you can't really go back to what you had before if you decide you want to. As far as cost goes, keep in mind this can be labor intensive to be done the right way. So make sure to have an experienced carpenter,painter or finisher who has done this before. Hope this helps!

White cabinets would be lovely with everything you have in your kitchen. Easy fix, as long as you get a painter who will properly prep and paint your cabinets.

I agree your cabinetry painted white would pop! Very clean and modern to go with your dark counter tops. And it will come no where near breaking your bank.

You could certainly do white or an antiqued white or green might be nice, too. I don't think any of these choices would clash with your granite or floors at all.

Your granite appears to be a color called Uba Tuba, which is a mixture of black and dark green. I used to have an ivory colored cabinet with that granite and it looked great. I got so many compliments on it. Good luck!

Use an off white paint color like "mushroom". Add some red and yellow in your floor mats, hand towels and counter accessories. Then, invest in a large two hole handle to give it an elegant look.
