Comments (3)I would reupholster the rosewood furniture in natural canvas or a natural linen look . Ask the upholsterer to do the job with NO welting. That will make it look more contemporary. Then stop by West Elm, Pottery Barn, or Crate & Barrel for some brightly colored pillows. I'm thinking coral might work well with your tile, but you be the judge of what color works best with it. For now we'll assume it's coral. So I'd like to see one wall painted coral if you're so inclined. Otherwise, I'd leave the walls white. Next, let's cover some of that tile you don't like. Two choice: 1. A rug you'll take with you. Perhaps a shaggy offwhite one. 2. A rug you'll leave in your rental. This could be a large piece of carpeting, cut and bound like a rug. Measure for size before going to the carpet store. Most carpeting is 12' wide, so figure on making a rug 12 x something so that there is no waste, or you could make a couple of 6 x somethings. If you could change out the rosewood coffee table for another, I think you'd be happier with the furniture. It needs some variety. Comments (14)Hi Fred, Thanks for the want of the precise measurements. The U shape area in my kitchen is 64" - 104 - 99" (left - centre - right). Height of the kitchen area is 107". The wall with the fridge has total length of 99" Fridge is 32" wide, 29" deep, 73" high (I bought this fridge on a good bargain but realized it was slightly oversized in this kitchen area, but got to live with it now) The wall beside the fridge is 23" deep I know some gap has to be left between this wall, the fridge and the wall mounted/countertop cabinets for ventilation I guess. So I'd say the cabinets on this wall will have a length of only 63"/64"? The microwave is 18.5 wide, 13" deep, 10.5" high The oven is 24" wide, 24" deep, 24" high. The wall next to the fridge which will have this feature cabinet 42" wide, 110" high which is next to the main door. Comments (3)No lah, it's important your hubby has his own relaxation area just like you'd have your lounge area. :) Sometimes we need to have our own spaces. Does your hubby not want the entertainment system to be in the living room? If you're worried about the sight of electronics marring your decor, your ID should be able to come up with clever spaces/tricks to store consoles and hide wires. Here's the arrangement in my home: our tv, soundbar, subwoofer and PS4 are in the living room. Having them in the living room comes in useful for guests if we all want to watch a movie, or if they sometimes want to have a go at the PS4 (I sometimes play too!). In our bedroom, we have a Wi-Fi speaker (that integrates with the sound system in the living room) and a PC with a huge desktop monitor for my hubby's PC games or general computer usage. But all the appliances are not an eyesore at all because they're sleek and my hubby is very neat when it comes to cable management. Anyway, think about your routine and imagine yourselves using the spaces you want to create to get a better idea of how to create them. :)...See Moresiriuskey
6 years agoI would like to see the garage become the Lounge/parents retreat/ guest room with large full height cavity doors so that it can be opened up or closed off when needed, It would become a bigger room when doors are open with light coming through the window in the garage into the passage way.
.Existing lounge become family room opening into dining kitchen.
Current Family room becoming Kids space with computer desk plus it's close to the all important kitchen & Fridge

6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoWould you be able to build a carport in front of 1 or both garages, would definately keep both drive ways. Are you just considering making one of the garages a play room by retaining the door etc. For me I would be having the family room for the kids keeping the mess to the rear of the house as previously mentioned the garage could become another bed room or parents retreat etc but it's what works for you you can make the kids room in the garage or the family.
Opening up the lounge dining kitchen and using the wasted passage is a great idea, might need support beam or post. keeping kitchen it the same position would save you quite a bit of money.
My idea for the kids (no ages) is the family room/garage becomes theirs with a large TV mounted a bit higher up on the wall so that all the kids can sit on bean bags and everyone can see the screen.
The bean bags are also great for individual playing of ipods and even make extra beds, very comfortable. If you use the garage some artificial grass could work.
I would also paint a long black board along one or two of the walls with a ledge for chalks. Must have Popcorn machine in the kitchen next door photos for you cheers

6 years agoremoving all lounge room walls would be a problem for upstairs so my initial suggestion to open up the living areas and make more use of bed 4, subject to engineers' advice, would to remove the wall to bed 4 to create a cosy family room and, depending on plans for the kitchen a "window" and breakfast bar could be added between the kitchen and new family room and either remove the wall between living and dining or widen the doorway as much as possible..(the dotted lines show walls removed and striped lines show walls added)
and there should be no reason why the kids can't use the garage as a wet weather rumpus room by leaving the car in the driveway and making certain that all tools etc are always stored in the other garage...add a rolled out carpet and a wall hung heater and TV and the kids can make a noise and a mess out of sight....what would you like in the kitchen and master bedroom suite??

6 years agoHi there, one of my very rough sketches with possible ideas for you to work with. Removing walls can mean you might need support beams, best to check with a structural engineer, any things possible to get the best working layout for you cheers
PS: nothings to scale just ideas

6 years agohere's your ideas drawn to scale...differences in sizes relate to allowing space for fixtures in upstairs bathroom, the size of the wiw taken off the master bed and thicknesses of walls and siriusky's sliding wall has been included in the rumpus
