Which tapware material should I choose?

Hey, currently renovating the bathroom in my period home!

Have decided on everything except what material I should use for the fittings (Brass,Chrome,Nickel ETC).

The home is an 1885 Victorian throughout and I want at least some elements in the bathroom.

Going for the same floor tile and wall tile as the picture below! All help is appreciated!

Nickel

Chrome

Brass

"Antique Copper"

I would choose whichever one won't need to be polished, so not brass or Antique copper.

What ever the colour of that towel rack is in the picture would look great! I wouldn't go anything too dull or grey because it'll make your room look very grey. A nice shiny Chrome or something with a bit of a different under tone.

What a great room! If you enjoy the general Monochromatic feel of your room I'd go with white or silver (see 'option2' photo) and let your accent pillows do the accenting! The blue hue on the wall actually simplifies your color options. Either pull that color in through a patterned application as mentioned above (see 'option1' photo) or just stick to silver/white. Hi Fred, Thanks for the want of the precise measurements. The U shape area in my kitchen is 64" - 104 - 99" (left - centre - right). Height of the kitchen area is 107". The wall with the fridge has total length of 99" Fridge is 32" wide, 29" deep, 73" high (I bought this fridge on a good bargain but realized it was slightly oversized in this kitchen area, but got to live with it now) The wall beside the fridge is 23" deep I know some gap has to be left between this wall, the fridge and the wall mounted/countertop cabinets for ventilation I guess. So I'd say the cabinets on this wall will have a length of only 63"/64"? The microwave is 18.5 wide, 13" deep, 10.5" high The oven is 24" wide, 24" deep, 24" high. The wall next to the fridge which will have this feature cabinet 42" wide, 110" high which is next to the main door. I'm thinking the feature wall is kind of plain, but it covers up where the fridge is sticking out.

Hi @leewinnie, it is TRUE that white countertops turn yellow, or amber overtime, and not an old wives' tale as suggested. We have just finished renovating two bathrooms and I was adamant I didn’t want shiny chrome. I insisted on Astra Walker’s brushed platinum tapware and fittings. Whilst it does look a bit gorgeous, I’m afraid it’s not worth the extra 25-30% we paid for it (shhhh, thank god my husband isn’t on Houzz!!). With all special finishes I find you need to be quite particular about wiping down the fittings otherwise they look grubby with water stains.

Hindsight you marvelous thing, you’re always 20/20 aren’t you??!! I’ll be sticking to good quality chrome if we ever renovate again. Especially since you can get such a wide variety of styles that suit anything from a Victorian style bathroom to pure minimalism. Good luck.

Chrome adds a touch of bling regardless of the era and it always looks clean.

If your budget can manage it, look at nickel - Perrin & Rowe have a beautiful range that will add that traditional touch you are looking for, much like your photo. Other finishes other than chrome will fall into a "trend zone" and require more upkeep.

I think black would be good as brass goes off over the years
