Furniture advice please

I'm looking for furniture ideas to fill the spaces on either side of my fireplace. I have approximately 5' on each side (see picture - apologies for the disarray as I just recently moved in). I have been looking at bookshelves with some sort of cabinet storage underneath, and I've looked at accent cabinets however, I'm unsure what would work best in this space. I'm very novice when it comes to spatial planning so any advice would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

I'd like to comment on the one photo you posted. It looks as if you could move the sofa a bit closer to fireplace and the two love seats closer to walls on either side of fireplace. Add a coffee table for the loveseats and rug under and chest of drawers on either side of fireplace.

I would like to suggest some asymmetry in the space. How about having one bookshelf on one side since 5' is plenty, and on the other side, a large vertical piece of artwork or two pictures stacked vertically?

Hello Cody, If the TV isn't going on the mantle wall than the only other available wall is the 13'5" wall. You might think about moving the TV to this wall and balancing it with art or plants. Your sofa can be turned with its back to the entrance/stairs and a small console table can be placed behind it to act as a visual stop. Your chair can be placed where the sofa currently sits or you could add a pair of new chairs to this area near the stair alcove which would create a smaller seating cluster there. Small benches could be placed in front of the fire for additional seating, when and if necessary. This one is a challenge, but if you don't mind the TV as focal point and the sofa perpendicular to the fireplace, this could work. These are the color we are going to choose from. Our living room got one side is all window as shown in the picture. One side has two doors towards kitchen and a small storage room. We would like to put the Sofa in the middle to divide the living room into living area and dining area. Also we would like to paint the wall into a different shades than the rest of the room. Any recommendations?

I very much agree with what Beverly said regarding adding shutters to your home. You don't have the space on either side of the windows to accommodate appropriately sized shutters. Awnings would definitely be an option. Since you're in the Caribbean, you can add color by using a brightly striped awning. One shutter option that you could consider would be a Bahama Shutter. Since they mount at the top of the windows, you wouldn't have any problem adding them if you like.

Hi Yen, We have 2 small dogs of our own, in our private home, (our apartment is designed and decorated. Being Interior Designers, we love and have a passion for nice furniture). In saying that, our Lhaso Apso sheds, and the Jack Russel loves toys. The solution, we treat them like our children, and like any regular parent, pull out the vacuum cleaner and pick up keep the toys in an open box (so the Jackie helps himself) in one area. Eventually the ritual becomes part of life, vacuuming and collecting toys every so often. Just like one does for children at home - i guess that's parenting to unconditional, loyal and faithful little souls. Enjoy your cat..... he seems full of pride of "HIS" home.
