Please help, living room layout advice - new start!
Following a recent house renovation, we are about to replace the living room furniture.
Living room needs to provide maximum seating; perhaps corner sofas or chaise; perhaps occasional chairs.
Log burner is in the fireplace, so able to see the fire and sit around it.
TV is currently on a console table between the two windows. Partner is very precious about the TV and won't be keen to move wiring. ( sore point - he likes family to sit around the TV - I like to sit around the fire).
New kitchen has a dining table so this isn't needed in the living room.
Living room has new distressed oak flooring.
House is a modern, 'victorian' style townhouse. We like 'scandi/mid century styling but open to anything.
Like the coziness of the sofa attached.
Room has grey walls and paintwork.
Looking at the architects plans - I dont feel the furniture is to scale. We have a 3 seater sofa, sitting against the grey hatched wall - this sits into this space, with floor space left before the shorter wall runs out.

Comments (19)Hi, Could you add a pic of the lounge area outside bedrooms? There seem to be too many palettes of colours within furniture from white tv cabinet to dark brown book shelf to light brown dining to black/blue/beige sitting pieces. Tie up sitting by adding few cushions in possibly black/white/blue combo. Extend sitting area of living through the entire span of AC wall. You need a larger rug for this space. Angle dining table between 30 to 45 degrees with long length between detached counter corner to bookshelf end towards lounge. This will add the flow to lounge. Add a table runner along the centre of the long length. You need larger artwork pics or a collection of art pieces on living room wall behind beige sofa. Lounge can have a console and wall with a composition of family picture frames to personalise space. Remove blue artwork in the last pic. Instead, you can add a composition of wall shelves with artefacts on them or wall hooks with hanging artefacts. Comments (28)Hi Few points: 1. It's not an independent residential apartment. It is a flat in a 25storey block 2. I have attached the floor plan for reference. The entrance is not too huge. 3. It's good to know that you guys have liked the Bathroom & kitchen design. The tiling work is in progress and it has come out well. I will take few snaps and post 4. When I say resort look - I understand and mean a simplistic natural looking design. More towards wood, nature, green, matt finish etc... Hope i am not confusing anyone here 5. Do you think the bathroom & kitchen design gels with what I mean by resort look. 6. The foyer area is a small (not too big) entrance. It's like a passage as you can see in the pics I posted earlier. When you enter you don't see the entire living room rather you see the wall (kitchen wall), where we intend to keep our dining table. You are so right @decoenthusiaste the view is beautiful and one reason why I chose the apartment. the room is longer than it is wide, and I wanted the kitchen/bar to be included in the seating so the attached pic is how I was planning to lay it out. @cdrdesign I can't/change the table, its a gorgeous mahogany piece I had custom made and one I see keeping for some years yet! I dont plan a TV in this room, will put it in another room. This room in for living and entertaining guests. Sorry I dont have layout software, so you will have to make do with my scribbles using powerpoint! Comments (9)Hi Amuro Elaine, Are you working with an interior designer to renovate your home? You'll probably be asked a few questions such as: How many people will live here? Is the bedroom wall a structural, load-bearing wall? Do you intend to entertain? But what an interesting space you have, and especially if you are living alone, there's so much potential to transforming it into your own pretty pad! If I were you, I would swap the living space with the bedroom, that means hacking the bedroom wall open, and then erecting a wall from that point where your kitchen wall ends. Have the wall in glass, with sliding glass doors, so that you can open it up when you have guests over. And when you're alone, you'll be able to enjoy the entire length of the apartment from your bed. 4 years agoI don't know about you, but I like to have coffee or work on my iPad or read the newspaper at the dining table. Which is why I've put a small round dining table with comfy chairs in the bay window, but you could of course go for two chairs and a small table, like Rinq showed.
Here's my version, which keeps the TV between the windows. I've put it on a long cabinet that goes in front of the radiator and provides extra seating or place to put plants on. Something like that could be made to measure, including a radiator cover. But it's just an idea.

4 years agoFor the bench/radiator cover I was thinking about something along these lines, but a more modern design without the sides. Anyway, as I said, just an idea to maximise seating if necessary.

I have to say that it looks very deep, which is lovely for snuggling up in, but guests might not be as enthusiastic about it. Just sitting isn't very comfortable in a very deep sofa. But... to each their own :-)
Love the vintage furniture!
It's always a good idea to use tape or paper to lay the dimensions of furniture out on the floor. You could also use your current sofas and chairs to give you an idea of how much space that sofa will take up.JesmondDene thanked CarolinaJesmondDene

4 years agoWell... here's an option that will give you loads of seating. Used the modular sofa from Made again. Using modular seating willl also give you the option of changing the layout if you feel like it.

4 years agoYou're welcome :-) I think you're underestimating the size of the Harrington sofa. They are 111 cm deep. If I were you, I'd mark the size out on the floor, to give you an idea of how much space it will take up. And the depth of the sofa doesn't give you more seats. But I can see why you like it.
Anyway...
