Paint the Breadboard or the wall & ceiling??

What to paint in this basement powder bath? Low ceiling and small space. The green is in our house as an accent color with white walls and some agreeable grey with some black and gold

Paint the beadboard. Keep walls as white to make the small space look spacious.

I would leave it all the same color and keep the spacious look. Use color for the accessories, like towels, etc.

I would reupholster the rosewood furniture in natural canvas or a natural linen look . Ask the upholsterer to do the job with NO welting. That will make it look more contemporary. Then stop by West Elm, Pottery Barn, or Crate & Barrel for some brightly colored pillows. I'm thinking coral might work well with your tile, but you be the judge of what color works best with it. For now we'll assume it's coral. So I'd like to see one wall painted coral if you're so inclined. Otherwise, I'd leave the walls white. Next, let's cover some of that tile you don't like. Two choice: 1. A rug you'll take with you. Perhaps a shaggy offwhite one. 2. A rug you'll leave in your rental. This could be a large piece of carpeting, cut and bound like a rug. Measure for size before going to the carpet store. Most carpeting is 12' wide, so figure on making a rug 12 x something so that there is no waste, or you could make a couple of 6 x somethings. If you could change out the rosewood coffee table for another, I think you'd be happier with the furniture. It needs some variety. Even a couple of small tables from IKEA could work for 6 to 8 months.

Your second photo brings me right to the stairwell scene in Hitchcock's "Vertigo," although I realize I'm looking up, not down. It's really rather wonderful. I'm just wondering, looking to the upper left in particular, if it's been recently checked out by a structural engineer. As for paint, I'll be interested to see what others say. For me, who doesn't do a lot of white, I think I actually would stay with a white here. A muddy green might be nice as well, but you'd need to incorporate a bit of lighting -- perhaps uplighting along the beams unseen from below, with something amazing hanging from that cool, crazy peak you have. Thanks everyone for the great comments!! I’ve decided to incorporate everyone’s comments. 1) Using Nippon rememberance for the wall color 2) Using pastel curtains with 3M to cover the ugly door and meter box 3) Making my own night stand from books 4) Getting a big art piece for the side wall 5) Putting a 55 inch TV at the foot of my bed for well, extravagance Some quick questions... 1) what color curtains and table top work best with this shade of grey? For the table top, I might get a fresh piece of wood and laminate myself. 2) what modern frame do you recommend for this wall and this kind of art, or should I drop the frame, and innovate, maybe just get a big piece of plastic and glue the sides? ;) 3) any fun ideas for the TV stand? I don’t want to rent a minivan just to transport the tv stand, and the space between my bed and the planned curtain is tiny - like 45cm. So I’m thinking of an adhoc tv stand and stabilising it in a different way. :) Ok, you guys have been super crazy helpful! Thank you so much, I’ll share photos (hopefully not too embarrassing) when I’m done!
