Would this work to light a step?

My livingroom is sunken 7.5 inches and two people have fallen since we moved in. Raising the floor is the only thing I can think of. Would this work?

Yes of course! We actually recommend using our normal bright flexible strips for steps (nice, subtle accent lighting). http://inspiredled.com/products/flexible-led-strips/normal-bright-flexible-strip-lighting
It would look similar to the lights in the pictures below. This is actually a perfect remedy for the problem you are encountering! You will just measure the length of your step, subtract 3 inches, and that will be the maximum size strip that you will need. You will then need a power supply (and a switch, if interested) and you will be all set!

I agree with Sheila. I like the look of more chalkboard wall, but there is a lighting issue. If this is to showcase friends' artwork, messages, etc, how about putting some type of lighting on the floor -angled up at the wall? (like you would do with floodlights) Since it is flat chalkboard paint, glare shouldn't be an issue, & it will highlight the art on the wall. Just a thought!

A small place will read better if done in sophisticated neutrals, I think. No rug in DR. A neutral rug in LR. Pull slightly more vibrant neutral colors from the neutral LR rug as they have done here.

Hi there! first I would recommend placing your sofa along the length to elongate your room. Your rug should be large enough so at least the two front legs of your sofa go over it. For low maintenance consider something with a print that will hide stains. For eg in my dining room I have a kilim that can take spills. You could also consider an outdoor rug (which you can wash) or something in a low key fabric like sisal/ jute. The latter will be inexpensive if you need to replace it. If you think that looks plain you can layer a smaller print rug over it to add textures to your room. All the best!

Thanks everyone for the great comments!! I’ve decided to incorporate everyone’s comments. 1) Using Nippon rememberance for the wall color 2) Using pastel curtains with 3M to cover the ugly door and meter box 3) Making my own night stand from books 4) Getting a big art piece for the side wall 5) Putting a 55 inch TV at the foot of my bed for well, extravagance Some quick questions... 1) what color curtains and table top work best with this shade of grey? For the table top, I might get a fresh piece of wood and laminate myself. 2) what modern frame do you recommend for this wall and this kind of art, or should I drop the frame, and innovate, maybe just get a big piece of plastic and glue the sides? ;) 3) any fun ideas for the TV stand? I don’t want to rent a minivan just to transport the tv stand, and the space between my bed and the planned curtain is tiny - like 45cm. So I’m thinking of an adhoc tv stand and stabilising it in a different way. :) Ok, you guys have been super crazy helpful! Thank you so much, I’ll share photos (hopefully not too embarrassing) when I’m done!
