I need help to know what to put on the wall behind the W&D

I designed my dream laundry room, however, i'm having a tough time to know what to put up on the wall behind the W&D to pull it all together. Any suggestions would be awesome. Side note: The wall actually stops at the end of this picture and their is a closet to the right that is not shown.

Comments (10)Are you saying that cooking next to the chute would gross you out even if its covered? Andd to use it for its intended purpose? In the first picture, it looks like the stove is directly underneath the chute, but I can see in other pics that it is not. I think it is far enough away. If everything is bagged properly, it shouldn't be that bad. You will have to check on local code regarding having the stove next to the window. Code may make your decision for you. People usually just put shorter cabinets above that type of range hood. I would recommend doing so because you need all the storage you can get. The hood--being different from the bank of cabinets--will provide relief to the eye. With cabinets above, it'll still feel balanced. And, as for covering the chute, do you want to cover it and restrict access or do you still need to use it for its intended purpose and just want to camouflage it? To help the room feel pleasant, cheery, and light, I recommend using a glass tile. Even though it's applied to a wall, the translucency still shows and evokes a sense of the adjectives above. I think it would help keep things light. Consider a slightly higher toe-kick underneath the lower cabinets. It helps to create a lighter-footed feeling. You could also consider cabinets that have furniture style feet. for a more open feeling. Your kitchen seems like an ideal room to use modern, lacquered cabinets. I don't know if you like the super-modern look, but I think it could be nice. Maybe just for the uppers. Use a medium-to-light toned wood on the bottom. A limestone floor might be nice. Comments (28)Hi Few points: 1. It's not an independent residential apartment. It is a flat in a 25storey block 2. I have attached the floor plan for reference. The entrance is not too huge. 3. It's good to know that you guys have liked the Bathroom & kitchen design. The tiling work is in progress and it has come out well. I will take few snaps and post 4. When I say resort look - I understand and mean a simplistic natural looking design. More towards wood, nature, green, matt finish etc... Hope i am not confusing anyone here 5. Do you think the bathroom & kitchen design gels with what I mean by resort look. 6. The foyer area is a small (not too big) entrance. It's like a passage as you can see in the pics I posted earlier. When you enter you don't see the entire living room rather you see the wall (kitchen wall), where we intend to keep our dining table. Comments (7)It looks as if you have something crumbling behind the tiles. It could be the porcelain or the wall. This once happened to me. I paid for a professional to insert a gas fire into the fire breast. Consistently we had what looked like rubble falling down the chimney. No one knew what it was and we were baffled. Then one day we had the chimney swept by an amazing chimney sweep who informed us the wall prep behind the fireplace hadn't been done properly and what was falling down was the brick and rubble which was behind and had not been cleared properly. He said it wasn't a big deal and not dangerous so we left it, although it was an inconvenience having to clean it up every day particularly in bad weather. I would advise asking a tiler to come and have a look. Maybe your bathroom tiles need sealing, maybe water is getting in. If the tiler doesn't know ask a surveyor, he may not have the answer but he will know which trade to point you in the direction of. It could simply be a case of the walls not being prepped properly before the tiles were put up. Any which way, if a large tile which could potentially fall off a wall it needs to be checked because if it landed on you it could do serious damage or cause further tile damage which would make the job of rectifying more expensive....See Moreneed some prof advice on my wishlist

10 years agoThanks everyone...this is very helpful! Yes I love my new space...I've been dreaming of a real laundry room for a very long time. Lunada Consulting...Since this picture was taken i did find a fun rug from world market! Here is a picture of what our old laundry room situation was...we have four children and as you can imagine there was never enough room to do laundry and dump all their shoes!

10 years agoBubbles decals. I've seen one of our fellow Houzzers use something like these in her laundry room. Cutting Edge Stencils. I have used their Ginko Leaf stencil in my dining room and I love it. 10 years agolast modified: 10 years agoHow about using industrial pipe that you can design around the window for a unique look. One side of the window could have shelves with baskets for stray socks, etc. and the other side for hanging items.

10 years agoIf it's within your budget I suggest that you buy the stands that are available. They would give you extra storage, lift up the machines to make access easier and would hide your washer connections.

10 years agoI suggest building all the function in that hard working room that you can. Save the pretty open shelving for the powder room. I think those wash stands are ugly and expensive, and you already have lots of storage. Here is the fold out drying rack. Put a closet rod between your cabinet and the wall. Lovely colour on your wall.

10 years agoA surface to fold your laundry or shelves to keep your threads etc... on and a TV to entertain you while you are doing your ironing ,you seem to have enough space for a wall mounted one , I have a radio in mine :)

10 years agoCheck out these websites. It's really quite easy. I would do something like the picture below
under the drop down ceiling area to the right of the window. You don't need to attach it to both the ceiling and the wall as shown in the picture. You could do one or the other as long as you hit a stud to hold the weight of the clothes. Then I would probably do a couple of shelves on the other side of the window or maybe some art work just to balance it out.

10 years agoFloating shelves from ikea lay very flat to the wall but can be a rotating gallery that adds personality to the room. I have them 4 high in my music room, and through the year I put records, pictures, artwork, etc. really fun and versatile.

10 years agoI saw this trick from Sarah Richardson and it works great. Get some small shadow box frames sized to the space you want to cover. Then put up collection of "laundry" themed shadow boxes.
I did a theme of all buttons. Sarah also did one that was tons of loose threads in coordinating colors. Maybe you could do a third a fill lit with powdered laundry detergent and toss some buttons in it. Then do another of say old wooden clothes pins. The options are endless. The first photo is mine the second is from another site that I keep as an inspiration. the third is from Sarash Richardson Good luck.

The yellow buttons is from a Sarah Richardson art display for a laundry room. the pink and red thread is an inspiration photo from another site but it could work and the one showing the pink hearts in a black frame in a laundry room is a photo from my actual laundry room which was put together based on one I saw on a Sarah Richardson show.
