Dream Houzz: Blogger Nicco Lim Designs Her Fantasy Home
Continuing our ongoing series, The Mini Loft blogger shares the Houzz photos that make up her dream home
As our newest contributing writer, The Mini Loft blogger, freelance graphic designer and prop stylist Nicco Lim brings her expert eye to Houzz Singapore. Here, in her words, is her dream house:
My husband Jerald, who is an art director, and I have two little ones. We currently live in a 5-room HDB flat that is white with wood flooring, and in a sleek, modern style. My Dream Houzz would be three-storey terrace house in the city, where we would have space for our extended family.

The Kitchen
An island for food prep, just next to dining area, makes entertaining easy. I would love to prep and bake at a kitchen island, and have a wet kitchen for Asian cooking. Some kitchen appliances will be hidden behind full-height cabinet doors for a look as clean-lined as this.
Smart storage hides electric kitchen appliances and clutter. Very important!

No top wall cabinets to open up the space even more and to give a lighter feeling. The standalone oven and stove adds a nice touch to the kitchen instead of the usual tabletop stove.
The Home Office
Dual seating functions better for couple time together, even if it means we are doing different things. When the kids are older, there’ll be space for them as well as one of us to guide/coach them in school work when needed.

Indoor greenery in the home office promotes better ventilation and brightens up the room’s mood.
The Master Bedroom
Full-height windows in the bedroom allow for a bright, airy ambience.

The Bathroom
I’d love the luxury of a bathtub – with a lovely view – to soak in while I rest and relax after work.
For the rest of the bathroom: smart storage above the toilet and frosted glass walls make the bathroom brighter without having to turn on the lights in the day and still maintain privacy. And of course that black outline framing that I love.

The Kids’ Room
We have a boy, Kaile, and a girl, Kaixin but I want them to share a bedroom. Bunk beds for young children, I believe promote sibling bonding. It will have a play area as well.

It will be contemporary and minimalist in style, with a fresh, white and neutral palette (and yes, the art director-husband agrees with this look!).
We used engineered wood flooring in our current house, and have learnt some lessons having lived with it. For my Dream Houzz, I would rather go with homogeneous tiles in a woodgrain design. The woodgrain tiles now are more natural and real looking than in the past.
The Living and Dining
Loving the black outlines, framing the house here. And my favourite Wishbone chairs for the dining area!
