On the console in front of the painted shutters, we layered it with vases filled with preserved palm fronds; woven demijohns; vintage books; photos of family; etc. All of these pieces, along with the Turkish pillows and custom pieces of art, add so much character and depth.

With it’s expansive scale we were able to incorporate two oatmeal-colored sofas, two contemporary accent chairs and a painted, vintage trunk. Being a family of seven that loves to entertain, we wanted to make sure that there was enough seating for everybody!

Modern Home Interiors and Exteriors, featuring clean lines, textures, colors and simple design with floor to ceiling windows. Hardwood, slate, and porcelain floors, all natural materials that give a sense of warmth throughout the spaces. Some homes have steel exposed beams and monolith concrete and galvanized steel walls to give a sense of weight and coolness in these very hot, sunny Southern California locations. Kitchens feature built in appliances, and glass backsplashes. Living rooms have contemporary style fireplaces and custom upholstery for the most comfort. The client was excited to purchase a home in the beautiful resort of Sandestin, but was not pleased with the dark interiors, heavy mouldings, tile floors, dated fixtures and heavy feel of the interior of the home. We solved their problems by completely renovating the interiors. Ceilings were raised, floors were replaced, cabinetry and fixtures were replaced and a problem area in the living room was solved. They now have the open, clean, airy beach home of their dreams and I couldn't be more pleased with how this home turned out for them. anthony vallee

Luxurious modern take on a traditional white Italian villa. An entry with a silver domed ceiling, painted moldings in patterns on the walls and mosaic marble flooring create a luxe foyer. Into the formal living room, cool polished Crema Marfil marble tiles contrast with honed carved limestone fireplaces throughout the home, including the outdoor loggia. Ceilings are coffered with white painted crown moldings and beams, or planked, and the dining room has a mirrored ceiling. Bathrooms are white marble tiles and counters, with dark rich wood stains or white painted. The hallway leading into the master bedroom is designed with barrel vaulted ceilings and arched paneled wood stained doors. The master bath and vestibule floor is covered with a carpet of patterned mosaic marbles, and the interior doors to the large walk in master closets are made with leaded glass to let in the light. The master bedroom has dark walnut planked flooring, and a white painted fireplace surround with a white marble hearth. The kitchen features white marbles and white ceramic tile backsplash, white painted cabinetry and a dark stained island with carved molding legs. Next to the kitchen, the bar in the family room has terra cotta colored marble on the backsplash and counter over dark walnut cabinets. This original Greene and Greene Craftsman cottage was remodeled recently. The interior had never been finished properly, although the home was built in 1913. The new banquet seating was remade using the old wood from the home- clear fir. A new fireplace surround was built using the original plans from the Greene Brothers using stone from the site. The rug is a handknotted original craftsman rug made with vegetable dyes. All new custom upholstery in arts and crafts designs and colors and tall recessed panel wainscot. Original fir floors. The Clubwell Manor was created and built in a private resort community, The Cliffs at Keowee Springs, as the 2008 Golf dream house and was specifically designed to take advantage of spectacular views of the Tom Fazio-designed golf course located to the rear of the home. Expansive walls of windows adorn every rear-facing room. A curved staircase creates a stunning way to move from floor to floor, and custom architectural details abound throughout the home.

White, gold and almost black are used in this very large, traditional remodel of an original Landry Group Home, filled with contemporary furniture, modern art and decor. White painted moldings on walls and ceilings, combined with black stained wide plank wood flooring. Very grand spaces, including living room, family room, dining room and music room feature hand knotted rugs in modern light grey, gold and black free form styles. All large rooms, including the master suite, feature white painted fireplace surrounds in carved moldings. Music room is stunning in black venetian plaster and carved white details on the ceiling with burgandy velvet upholstered chairs and a burgandy accented Baccarat Crystal chandelier. All lighting throughout the home, including the stairwell and extra large dining room hold Baccarat lighting fixtures. Master suite is composed of his and her baths, a sitting room divided from the master bedroom by beautiful carved white doors. Guest house shows arched white french doors, ornate gold mirror, and carved crown moldings. All the spaces are comfortable and cozy with warm, soft textures throughout. Modern style living rooms… or Contemporary style living rooms?

You’ll often read about Contemporary living rooms and Modern living rooms used interchangeably, but they’re not actually the same thing. Modern living rooms make reference to mid century design cues such as using natural materials, having minimal details on furniture. Modern design cues also included bold graphic or geometric patterns on soft furnishings like sofas, rugs, and wallpaper in the living room.
