See the manifold looks this iconic curvy chair takes on in different spaces around the world

One of the most recognisable pieces of Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen, the Egg chair was originally designed in 1958 as part of a commission for the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel (formerly SAS Royal Hotel) in Copenhagen, the first skyscraper in Denmark. The Egg chair is a testament to Jacobsen’s design triumphs – its curves provided a striking contrast to the building’s sharp, linear surfaces. He was also the first to use and perfect a sculpting technique wherein the chair was moulded out of a strong foam inner shell under the upholstery. Since then, the design has remained the same, with satin polished steel pedestal and aluminium star-shaped base, and has come out in many gorgeous colours.

The Egg’s unique fluid shape creates a cocooning effect that exudes both comfort and sophistication. It fits seamlessly in any interior style, which is why it continues to be a popular piece in today’s homes. Here we show you how this modern masterpiece takes the stage in different interiors.

Classic icon in Singapore
This chrome-tanned leather Egg chair becomes the perfect accompaniment to the similarly coloured sofa in warming up an all-white, minimalist living area.

Muted cosiness in London
Twin grey Egg chairs enjoy a prime position looking towards the balcony and the view. The simple addition of yellow pillows and side table brightens up this area, where the owners can have relaxed conversations over wine.

Cool corner in Berlin
There’s nothing like putting up your feet after a long day (or unwinding at any time of the day, for that matter), and this comfy corner decked with a turquoise Egg chair and foot stool is made exactly for that reason. The cool blue hue also adds a refreshing touch to the bedroom’s muted palette.

Making it pop in Paris
This classic bright red Egg chair leaps out in this pristine hallway. The vivid colour also complements the artwork, and even makes the chair an art piece in itself.

Focal point in Washington DC
Another standout is this deep yellow-orange version that is given a fitting stage in this library. Set against dark wood and almost framed by the hallway, it is a striking accent piece that also enhances the warmth of the space.

Easy lounging in Melbourne
A nursery won’t be complete without a comfortable lounge chair for parent-and-child cuddling, and this Egg chair certainly fits the bill in this little boy’s room. The midnight blue chair, matched with equally cosy cushions, harmonises with the room’s blue, red and white colour scheme.

Furry affair in Russia
Accentuating the laid-back, old-world charm of this living area is the cowhide-upholstered Egg chair. The fuzzy detailing takes the room’s style factor up a notch.
Black is beautiful in Los Angeles
This black Egg chair makes quite an impression in this home office. It grounds the room’s otherwise eclectic style.

White on white in New York
There are many striking elements that can draw you to this double-height living area, but the white Egg chair is definitely not to be missed. Despite blending into the monochromatic palette, its curvy shape is a lovely contrast to the straight lines around it and the verticality of the space.

Retro vibe in London
The Egg chair in citrus green feels right in this colourful entertainment room. Its curved form rounds off the geometric shapes dominating the space.
