White as a Visual Resting Space at Singapore Design Week
Why top furniture designer Nathan Yong built a white house for the International Furniture Fair Singapore
On the colour spectrum, white is theoretically the blend of all colours. To the human eye, however, it seems like blankness, and therefore is considered visually restful. A good designer knows this, and this is why Nathan Yong, Singapore’s top furniture designer, conceptualised a ‘white house’ as the conference space and lounge for the International Furniture Fair Singapore during Singapore Design Week 2017.
Yong’s White House is a temporary structure within the fair, and made of white strips hung from a house-shaped frame. Inside, there is a cafe, conference space, and an exhibit of white designer pieces by other fair exhibitors, curated by Yong.
Woven+ provided woven seats for the lounge.
The American Hardwood Export Council provided timber stools with white dip-dyed legs for the conference space.
Selected designs from fair exhibitors, such as these below, decorate the perimeter of the interior of the white house.
