A Spare Room is Transformed into a Shopaholic's Dream in The Apartment
The contestants repurpose a spare room and its 'junk' contents in this episode

In this episode of The Apartment, judge-mentor Tyler Wisler took the contestants to the ‘junk room’ – a spare room where wonky furniture, tired seasonal things like swimming pool floaters, and moving boxes were stored. The challenge was to reimagine the room, and, if possible, upcycle some of its contents into something that would fit right in with the show’s luxury theme.
The winning team, as Tyler said during elimination at Design Court, was “the team that turned the least amount of budget into the highest style room”.

Room at a Glance: Walk-in wardrobe
Who is it designed for: A shopaholic wife whose wardrobe can’t fit her fashion purchases anymore
Designers: Team James, comprising James, Blondie and Adrien
Leader James has a background as a builder, so with two professional interior designers, Blondie and Adrien, this team worked like a dream, even when they were handicapped with a $5,000 deduction from their budget (as it was awarded to last episode’s winner, Team Seron).

With a soft, millennial pink as the anchor colour, the team added black and white accents through painted outlines and thoughtfully selected accessories such as the oversized antique framed mirror.
They refinished the old bookshelf that was ‘junked’ in their spare room, and asked for Team Seron’s junk bookshelf to upcycle as well. The two remodelled bookshelves are now display cases flanking the arched console.
The team also took mismatched metal pieces from the junk room and cleverly turned it into the vanity chair, using Hammerite Direct to Rust metal paint, and a faux fur cushion.

“I love the room; I think it’s elegant. It’s classy and lush. The details are really good,” said guest judge Marilen Faustino-Montenegro.
Head judge Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen added: “This room takes you, James, but also takes you, Adrien, and you, Blondie, into a totally new space.”
