The clever use of space and cosy, industrial-style interiors in this high-ceilinged apartment will surprise you
Not many homes in Singapore can boast a high ceiling. This penthouse apartment however, is endowed with one. The design team at Architology maximised the home’s high ceiling, while ensuring that the home still looks and feels cosy. Riding on the homeowners’ love for the raw, edgy, and honest expression of the industrial-style, the designers personalised the space by including design elements that reflect the homeowners’ lifestyle preferences. Their growing collection of toys was put to good use, lending a touch of the playful against the industrial charm of the apartment.
The living room is where the home’s high ceiling is most celebrated. From the floor up, exposed light bulbs neatly frame the entire wall behind the TV console – adding a touch of glamour that’s reminiscent of the retro dressing room mirrors of Hollywood movie stars!
To add visual drama to the space and create a den-like ambience, the homeowners opted for a black ceiling and a cement screed wall. The designers also installed a sleek four-blade ceiling fan, much needed in hot and humid Singapore, which also doubles as a neat artistic fixture for the home.

Simple but iconic pieces of furniture are the mainstays of the living room. A customised TV console sits comfortably within the bay window, while a warm brown, button-tufted sofa in a mid-century modern style was chosen to anchor the space. A metal trunk-turned-coffee table sits pretty and perfectly channels the edgy, industrial style.
The dining room sits within the kitchen, and in this space, the designers used mirrors on all the cabinet doors to give the illusion of a much larger space. The addition of the stainless steel splashback and sink complements the chrome elements used in the kitchen, keeping in line with the industrial style.

To maximise the use of this narrow and deep space, the design team turned it into an open study for the homeowner, who then chose to use a stool instead of a chair, to keep the room from looking cluttered. And it stores neatly under the table.
This small en suite bathroom (40sqm) is made more spacious with the absence of a shower stall enclosure. The length of mirror running above and below the vanity, and multiple light sources help brighten the dark palette of this space. And the slim wooden rack for towels and toiletries is the perfect choice for such a small space.
The master bedroom takes on the minimalist approach. The cement screed walls are a nod to the industrial style, while the contrast of dark wood finishes on the floor and carpentry lend warmth to the whole.
The customised divider – used as a TV console – in the room helps to segregate the wardrobe from the bed. It also offers a spot for the homeowner to showcase his prized collection of sneakers and caps.

The open-concept layout of this apartment led the designers to subtly create separate zones for each utilitarian space while maintaining a unified decor aesthetic.
Here, the dining table separates the kitchen from the living area, and it also serves as a kitchen island, as well as additional seating in the living room, when needed.
