Houzz Tour: This Modern Sanctuary for a Sneakerhead is a Shoo-in
This bachelor pad puts the focus on a prized sneaker collection
Home to a bachelor, this two-bedroom penthouse condo unit was designed as a place for him to rest, unwind and indulge in his sole collection. The designers from The Interior Place conceptualised a bright and ultra-modern space that would also be easy for him to clean and maintain.
Inspired by retail visual merchandising, the designers put forth the idea of showcasing the shoes on individual ‘floating’ shelves.
The floating effect is down to clear acrylic panels affixed to the wall. Trimmed with LED strips, these shelves become a funky display for the homeowner’s collection.
The open-concept kitchen continues the ultra-modern look with glossy black cabinet fronts and a stainless steel backsplash. Since there isn’t a dining table, the kitchen counter also doubles as a dining spot for the homeowner to have quick meals or a drink.
The tapered form of the kitchen counter is designed to complement the shape of the TV feature wall, creating a sense of cohesiveness between the two different areas.
A wall that was between the bedroom from the living area was torn down and replaced with a glass panel. This visual connection helps to bring more light into the study and make the space appear larger.
The bedroom on the lower floor is now a study, as the homeowner occasionally works from home. Part of the space was transformed into a cosy lounging area with a carpeted platform. Clad in white and black, a full-height shelving unit provides plenty of storage space.
The master bedroom is a simple, soothing sanctuary with crystal twinkling lights set into the dark ceiling. This not only adds visual interest to the room, but also provides a source of illumination at night.
The design team also replaced part of the walls with a clear glass panel, to evoke a similar atmosphere of sleek modernity on this upper level.

The glass wall gives the bedroom visually extends the space and lets the owner keep an eye on what’s happening on the lower floor.
