Transforming this medium-sized garden in Newlands came with its unique set of challenges. The central patio needed to be extended and structurally supported with retaining work. A new pergola and cosy sitting area were designed to complement the existing summer house at the back. An elegant, low-maintenance planting scheme was essential. To enhance functionality, we incorporated an outdoor lighting scheme and a thoughtfully designed path to connect the patios and the summer house seamlessly. Finally, creating a secure, fenced area at the back ensured a safe and dedicated space for the family dog. We successfully designed this project by:
Extending and opening the central patio to the rest of the garden with wide, porcelain slab steps.
An additional square patio out of brick pavers was built to the side of the main patio to add rustic charm and maintain the neighbourhood's aesthetic.
Laying a gravel path with brick paver inlays to the back of the house.
The summer house was connected to a gym at the rear corner of the plot, with an additional sitting area and a fenced area for the dog.

Skyfall has been designed with a high quality palette of individual materials incorporating examples from local the vernacular such as tile-hanging, lime render, feature brickwork and natural timber cladding. Internally the house benefits from open plan living that orbits around a stunning central staircase complete with a handcrafted balustrade and handrail. Enclosed breakout spaces, including a beautifully crafted oak frame sky lounge at roof level, create a flexible family home in a fantastic waterside setting.
Externally the landscaping delivers the home into its surroundings using defined paving, planters, and clever use of external lighting.

A garden for plant lovers was designed for a professional couple in the front (and only) garden of their lower villa conversion. The garden was designed on an angle, taken from the angles of the bay windows of the house, which not only offered depth to the garden, but also connected the garden to the house.
The lawn was replaced by planting beds edged in beautiful clay pavers (Vande Moortel), which were also used to create the patio. The clay pavers toned in perfectly with the existing brick boundary wall and the buff sandstone of the house.
An additional seating area was created looking through the beautifully made metal archway from Made by More. The planting scheme for the existing borders was redesigned to connect with the overall scheme of the garden and were replanted summer 2019 (after these photos were taken).
Rachel Bailey Garden Design Ltd designed the garden and the planting scheme and sourced planted from Macplants.co.uk and Maclarens Nurseries.
The garden was built and planted up by the clients.

This charming weather board house was a bit of an ugly duckling initially with a rotten picket fence, featureless end gable and a garden containing rough grass and the one redeeming feature - the perfectly positioned English Elm (Ulmus quercifolia). The design now leads the eye via a swathe of lawn through a rich tapestry of contrasting foliage and form. The elm has had its canopy professionally lifted to maximise light.
The addition of a new picket fence and matching obelisks to puctuate the space as well as and the window canopies with their striking red rooves complete the picture.
Worst house in the street to best house.

A strong geometrical design creates a welcoming entrance garden between the driveway and the front door.

New revised garden path entry to the house. A small fish pond and new rockery wrap around the existing house/ The house itself is constructed of concrete tiles stacked on top of each other.

This traditional front garden in North London was redesigned and planted as a part of a whole house renovation. The lines of Yew cones create an impressive focal point and guide visitors towards the front door. The largely evergreen planting scheme is designed for the shady conditions and will provide year round interest in the garden.
